This week Ring of Honor Wrestling returned to the #ROHBubble for another round of TV tapings. This was my first round of TV tapings after being fully vaccinated.
Side note: My wife and son have also been vaccinated. The first shot mostly made us tired and there was shot site soreness. The second dose (Moderna for my wife and I, Pfizer for my son) made me feel sore, weak and tired for two days and back to normal the next. My wife felt the same, with more site soreness. My son felt sick for two days and was fine after that.
The #ROHBubble was shorter this time. What normally was 6-7 days was cut down to 4-5 days on-site. We also went from having four COVID-19 tests to two — one before arrival and one after. Unfortunately, not everyone passed the protocol, which instantly served as a reminder that COVID-19 still exists even though things are getting better.
Seeing the guidelines beginning to ease made me appreciate the Maryland State Athletic Commission and Ring of Honor for reinforcing the rules with our safety in mind. One of the guidelines had been that no one in an older age bracket was allowed to work at the tapings. Some of the older, behind-the-scenes, familiar faces returned!
It’s hard to explain the joy of greeting friends that you haven’t seen since the pandemic. It’s a new appreciation of life; knowing we’ve experienced the same world crisis and survived it. Much love to ROH ambassador Cary Silkin, Director of Operations Gary Juster, and COO Joe Koff. Their absence was felt. You don’t realize how much you appreciate their presence until they’re not around.
I remember landing in Las Vegas in March 2020 for ROH’s 18th Anniversary weekend unsure about what the world was coming to and what decisions my company would make because of the pandemic.
Then I saw my company secure our hearts by demonstrating their loyalty to us. Eventually, we were able to do TV tapings with no crowds under very strict MSAC rules. And now here we are: the return of older friends, a relaxation of rules and shorter site days.
There is a light at the end of this tunnel. I’ll admit I doubted it in the past, but it continues to grow clearer and larger. I’m willing to do what’s needed to see this thing through, because there’s a light!
Just something to think about. I call it a dose of Colemanism.
