A Dose Of Colemanism: The Battery Test

January 21, 2021

Consider the cell phone battery. When it’s charged up it’s green, and when it’s going down the green will turn into red, meaning you need to charge it up.

I’ve developed a system that I use for my life battery. My intention is to show you how to navigate everyday life and encounters with people in a different way. The people you are around the most are the ones that have the most impact on your battery.

Think of sleep like charging your battery. I know many of you read that and understood that most of us aren’t working at 100% because we’re not getting enough sleep.

Everyday life situations and interactions with people have an effect on your battery. Have you ever started out in a good mood around somebody but after the interaction you felt drained?

Understand that everybody is entitled to have a bad day, but there are some people that have chosen to have a bad life. These people can’t be cheered up, are always in need, find negativity in everything, and ask for help but won’t take the advice.

I call these people drainers. They drain your battery and can ruin your mood and your day. If most of your time is spent around people that drain your battery, it can have a negative effect on your health.

There are some people I just don’t get along with. I love them, but I can’t spend a lot of time with them. What I’ve learned to do is always leave on green.

When I run into negative people, I understand that they are potentially going to drain my battery, so I gauge my encounter. Understand that your health and well-being is most important.

If I feel that I’m getting to a place where my battery is running low, I start looking for an exit out of the conversation or from their presence. I always try to leave before my battery turns red. See, when my battery turns red, I’m probably going to say or do something I don’t need to.

I found that leaving on green also helps the other person as well because they’ll always remember their last conversation with you was positive.

You can also have encounters with people that make you feel charged. They literally brighten your day. There are also people that challenge you in a way that drains your battery in a productive way.

The goal is to understand which people have what effect on you, and spend less time with people that negatively drain your battery.

Just something to think about. I call it a dose of Colemanism.

Caprice Coleman is ROH’s color analyst and has been wrestling for more than 20 years. He also is an ordained minister and motivational speaker. A Dose of Colemanism appears every Thursday.
