Results for AEW Dynamite 1/19/22:

  • JON MOXLEY RETURNS
The show opened with the return of Jon Moxley! The fans in DC showered him with chants of “MOXLEY!” and “WELCOME BACK!” A particularly vocal heckler spewed something that prompted Moxley to say “Go f*ck yourself! Get that guy out of here!” on the live mic. He gives a passionate speech to the fans, speaking of conquering his demons and owning your scars before challenging anyone in the locker room. He says there is no hell that anyone can put him through worse than what he has experienced already. This is a fired up Mox, the likes of which we might have never seen before.

  • MJF backstage segment
MJF recaps Wardlow’s dominant loss to Wardlow as the big man stands behind him looking unhappy. MJF turns to Wardlow and apologizes to Wardlow for getting angry at him and wishes him a happy birthday. He then tells Wardlow that his pay will be docked for putting his hands on Friedman before talking about Shawn Spears v. CM Punk later tonight.
  • Adam Cole & Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D. v. Orange Cassidy & Kris Statlander – Adam Cole & Britt Baker win by pinfall (The Boom)
The match opens with mind games from Cole and Baker exchanging tags to force tags from their opponents, leading to Cassidy to do his pocket kick spot with Baker. The women eventually kick off the action, with Statlander putting her power on display early. Cole and Cassidy get tagged in and trade offense before Cole is sent to the outside. Statlander gets Baker up for a long vertical suplex before sending her to the outside as well. Cassidy and Statlander take turns diving off the apron before superkicks from Cole and Baker take us to commercial.

After an exchange between Baker and Statlander, Cole and Cassidy tag back into the match. Cassidy takes a superkick from Cole but bounces back to hit the Stundog Millionaire. Baker blind tags in as Cassidy sets Cole up for a Beach Break and she comes in to break up the move. As referee Paul Turner has his back turned Baker drops Cassidy with a curb stomp. Statlander comes in and drops Baker in a corner before running to the top rope. As she positions for a 450 splash Cole covers Baker up. Statlander shrugs it off and just does the 450 on both of them.
The action spills to the entrance ramp, which is at apron level tonight. Cassidy attempts a diving superman punch to the outside but Cole catches him with a superkick. Baker delivers a destroyer to Statlander on the ramp, and Cole hits the Panama Sunrise on Cassidy on the inside. Cassidy kicks out at two, leading Baker and Cole to set up a table on the outside. As Baker stands on the apron Cole ducks another superman punch leading Cassidy to knock Baker off the apron through the table. An enraged Cole hits Cassidy with a low blow, lowers The Boom, and pins Cassidy for the win.

  • Chris Jericho, Santana & Ortiz backstage segment
Jericho starts off by slandering Eddie Kingston before Ortiz cuts him off to tell him not to speak of their friend this way. They go on to say that Eddie might be right in Jericho holding them back from tag team gold. The duo walk off, leaving Jericho to do some awful sad acting as the camera fades.
  • Adam Cole backstage segment
A furious Cole challenges Orange Cassidy to a Lights Out match for Beach Break.
  • Shawn Spears v. CM Punk – CM Punk wins by pinfall (Go To Sleep)
MJF comes to the entranceway to head to the commentary desk. Shawn Spears locks up with Punk, ends up on his shoulders immediately, and is PUT TO SLEEP. CM Punk squashed Shawn Spears in seconds before MJF could even walk to the commentary desk. MJF tried to sneak up on Punk as he celebrated on the turnbuckle but was caught by Punk. Friedman escaped by ducking out of his scarf and running away.

  • Billy Gunn and Christian backstage segment
Billy Gunn confronts Christian to issue a challenge from Colten and Austin Gunn for the tag team titles. Christian says the boys need to do something big to earn a shot. Colten and Austin attack Christian from behind as we cut back to the arena.
  • Cody Rhodes returns
Cody brings a massive ladder into the ring and begins talking about CM Punk’s pipe bomb promo. He states that he has done all of the things Punk talked about, and that before the Forbidden Door was a noun that he was building it. He goes on to talk about his competitors in AEW, naming Ricky Starks, Jay Lethal, Malakai Black and Brody King. He goes on to challenge Interim TNT Champion Sammy Guevara to a ladder match at Beach Break to unify the TNT Championship.
  • Jade Cargill and Anna Jay backstage promo
Anna and Jade go back and forth at each other alongside Jon Silver and Mark Sterling. The two will soon meet for the TBS Title.
  • Kings of the Black Throne (Malakai Black & Brody King) v. Varsity Blondes (Brian Pillman Jr. & Griff Garrison) – Kings of the Black Throne win by pinfall (Dante’s Inferno)
Brody King scares the absolute daylights out of Pillman, leading the Blondes to have a meeting outside the ring. King tackles Garrison into the steps, rolls Pillman back into the ring, and takes turns picking him apart with Black. The Kings hit Pillman with Dante’s Inferno for an easy victory. The AEW tag division should be on notice.
Malakai takes the mic following the match, but a video package of Pac cuts him off. Pac says he can’t be corrupted and removes his blindfold to reveal he can see.

  • Trent Barretta and Rocky Romero backstage segment
Rocky and Trent talk about their history in New Japan Pro Wrestling as Roppongi Vice as rivals of the Young Bucks. They challenge the Bucks to one last match on Rampage this Friday
  • Frankie Kazarian v. Lance Archer w/ Jake Roberts & Dan Lambert – Lance Archer wins by pinfall (Blackout)
Jake “The Snake” Roberts made his return tonight, showing up in a video package alongside Archer and Lambert earlier in the show to set up a future match with Hangman Adam Page for the AEW World Championship. Archer took control against Kaz early on, beating him from one side of the ring to another, in the corners, and taking him outside during the commercial break.
As we come back from break Archer is dominating Kazarian in the ring while taunting the crowd with familiar sign language. He chokes and chops Kazarian as the crowd chants “Piece of sh*t!”. Kaz mounts a brief comeback before Archer catches him with a chokeslam and hits the Blackout. Archer makes the cover for an easily earned win in his return match.
Tony Schiavone takes to the ring following the match to get an explanation on Lambert’s relationship with Archer. Lambert takes the mic away to talk about Page being a fake cowboy. Archer cuts him off, saying he is tired of this “Fake cowboy sh*t” and says he will show fans what he plans to do to Archer. Archer grabs Kazarian and takes him outside the ring where he looks to chokeslam him on a chair. He is stopped by Hangman, who comes out and begins scrapping with Archer. Page dispatches him to the outside of the ring and we cut to a backstage segment.

  • Dante Martin, Matt Sydal & Lee Moriarty backstage promo
Dante thanks Matt and Lee for having his back and says Sydal has been like a brother to him during his tag partner (and actual brother) Darius’ absence. Lee says they will continue to have his back until Darius returns.
The segment is taken over by a transition to Ricky Starks and Powerhouse Hobbs in another backstage are where Starks talks some trash about Martin.
  • Kris Statlander, Red Velvet and Leyla Hirsch backstage segment
As Tony Schiavone interviews Kris Statlander about her match earlier in the night. Leyla interrupts, saying Statlander had no focus and cost them their match last week on Rampage. As Velvet responds she is knocked down by Hirsch, who then drops Statlander and locks in an armbar.
  • Skye Blue v. Serena Deeb – Serena Deeb wins by submission (Serenity Lock)
Deeb takes over fairly early on, as is expected given her experience advantage over her challenger. She drops Blue’s back across the middle rope with a modified neckbreaker before a slingshot into the bottom rope. Serena dominates with another neckbreaker as the crowd chants “DEEB!”. She picks up Skye and drops her with a Deebtox before bashing her young challenger’s knee into the mat and locking in a Serenity Lock for a submission.

  • Ethan Page, Scorpio Sky & Dan Lambert backstage promo
We see Page flanked by Sky and Lambert in a backstage area. Page issues a challenge for Jon Moxley on Rampage this Friday.
  • A segment previewing this week’s Rampage card and next week’s Dynamite card air.
  • Sammy Guevara does a cue card segment while on vacation where he addresses his upcoming ladder match with Cody, saying the Sammy we knew is gone.
  • Matt Hardy and Andrade backstage segment
Matt announces Andrade has purchased 51% of the HFO, but Matt and Private Party will still hold 2/5 of the board seats.
  • The Acclaimed (Max Castor & Anthony Bowens) v. Darby Allin & Sting
A black & white video of The Acclaimed which parodies a typical Darby Allin vignette aired before the match. The Acclaimed made their entrance with another hilarious rap song.
Before the match could begin The Acclaimed attacked Darby and Sting, running Darby off the apron into the ring post with a chair around his head. Darby fell to the floor injured. The doctor came over to take Darby to the backstage area and Sting agreed to wrestle the match 2 v. 1.
The match proper began with Sting getting early offense in, chopping at his opponents and hitting a Stinger Splash on Castor. He ran to splash Bowens, who moved out of the way while pulling off the turnbuckle pad. Sting hit the exposed buckle and The Acclaimed piled on as we headed to a commercial.
The Acclaimed worked on Sting during the break and continued the assault after it. Sting eventually took control of the action, sinking a Scorpion Deathlock onto Castor while no-selling a punch from Bowens, who eventually broke the hold and took Sting to the outside. Bowens delivered a shot to Sting with their stereo as Darby ran out to save his partner. Darby hit The Acclaimed with a Coffin Drop to the outside of the ring and Sting took their opponents up onto the ramp where he dove off the stage through Castor and the timekeeper’s table. Darby had Bowens in the ring, delivering a stunner and a Coffin Drop for the cover.

This was a pretty loaded card but the show paced along really well and the matches entertained. Kings of the Black Throne look like world-eaters. Archer is a nice opponent to line up for Hangman before setting up his Revolution program.

AEW returns to the screen on Friday, with Rampage airing at 10pm EST on TNT. Bodyslam will have you covered with live results and highlights throughout the show!
