AEW Sets Record With Grand Slam

September 23, 2021

Last night’s Dynamite Grand Slam special was an action-packed show. We got to see a dream match come true with The American Dragon Bryan Danielson go head to head with AEW Champion Kenny Omega. The match went the distance and would end in a draw but surely lived up to the hype. As we reported yesterday AEW was on pace to have 20k fans in attendance. well, they definitely did that plus.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed the AEW Grand Slam event. He noted how it broke a company attendance record, but it also saw them capture a spot on another impressive list.

“The gate would have been the third largest non-WWE gate in the history of pro wrestling in the United States. Attendance-wise it’s the biggest for a non-WWE event since 1999.”

It was noted that this was the first wrestling event held at Artur Ashe Stadium and AEW exceeded expectations. We will have to see how and if AEW will be able to top this show because every time it looks like the company has reached its ceiling, they always find a way to top themselves.
