Eck’s Files: Date Set For Brian Johnson’s ROH World TV Title Shot Against Dragon Lee; ROH Roundtable Celebrates Black Excellence In Wrestling

Brian Johnson’s title match against ROH World Television Champion Dragon Lee will take place on March 3 at 7 p.m. Eastern exclusively on the ROH The Experience Facebook page and YouTube.

“The Mecca” secured the title shot by winning a poll last month on the Facebook page to determine who among six candidates should get a shot at Lee’s title. Kudos to those who voted for Johnson for being able to see past his toxic personality and recognize his talent.

Johnson undoubtedly will have his work cut out for him against Lee, who not only is one of the best wrestlers in the world, but he also has a mean streak to match Johnson’s.

However, Lee and fellow La Faccion Ingobernable member Kenny King have set their sights on the ROH World Tag Team Title, and if Lee isn’t focused, Johnson could very well pull off the upset.

Can you imagine how much more obnoxious Johnson would be if he beats Lee to become ROH World Television Champion?

The next episode of “ROH Roundtable” premieres on YouTube on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at noon Eastern. In honor of Black History Month, the subject is black excellence in pro wrestling.

The discussion is moderated by Caprice Coleman, who is joined by Shane Taylor, Kenny King and World Famous CB.

Also this month on YouTube, ROH is spotlighting significant achievements by its black athletes, including Jay Lethal becoming the only man to hold the ROH World and ROH World Television titles simultaneously.

Speaking of World Famous CB, he was my guest on the latest episode of “The ROHStrong Podcast,” which drops this Monday morning on ROHWrestling.com and most podcast platforms.

WFCB talked about reinventing himself after nearly a decade as Cheeseburger; becoming friends with his idol, Jushin “Thunder” Liger; his friendship with the late Hana Kimura; wanting to quit after his first day of training at the ROH Dojo; wrestling at the Tokyo Dome; opening his own wrestling school, and much more.

The next two episodes of “Ring of Honor Wrestling” are going to be off the hook.

There are three big matches on this weekend’s show: ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions MexiSquad (Bandido, Rey Horus and Flamita) defend against Shane Taylor Promotions (Taylor and Soldiers of Savagery); Jay and Mark Briscoe take on LFI’s Lee and King in a No. 1 contender’s match; and The OGK’s Mike Bennett faces The Righteous’ Bateman in a grudge match.

The episode the weekend of Feb. 27 is a special championship edition. ROH World Champion RUSH defends against Taylor, and ROH World Tag Team Champions Lethal and Gresham defend against the winner of the Briscoes-Lee/King match.

When all is said and done, three titles could change hands, and Taylor and Lee could both be double champions.

The Briscoes seem to be on better terms after Jay and Mark sat down and talked out their differences as only they could.

There isn’t a better tag team in the sport when the Briscoes are on the same page. If they truly are unified, I think there’s a strong chance Dem Boys will win their 12th ROH World Tag Team Title in two weeks.
