Eck’s Files: Shane Taylor, Kenny King Face Off In Grudge Match At Final Battle; LuFisto Guests On ROHStrong Podcast

November 12, 2021

By Kevin Eck

In a grudge match 10 months in the making, former friends Shane Taylor and Kenny King will collide at the Final Battle: End of an Era pay-per-view on Dec. 11 in Baltimore.

Taylor has had a score to settle with King since February, when King betrayed Taylor by hitting him over the head with a chair to cause him to lose his ROH World Title Match against then-champion RUSH.

It was inevitable that these two would square off, and ROH’s biggest pay-per-view of the year is a fitting place to do it. The bout was signed after Taylor and King had a face-to-face confrontation following a match between Dragon Lee and Matt Taven on the current episode of ROH Week By Week.

The triple threat contenders match between Trish Adora, Allysin Kay and Mandy Leon will take place on Ring of Honor Wrestling the weekend of Nov. 20.

The winner of that match will face Willow — who won a triple threat contenders match over Angelina Love and Miranda Alize last month — on Ring of Honor Wrestling the weekend of Dec. 4 for the right to challenge ROH Women’s World Champion Rok-C at Final Battle.

Also on the Nov. 20 episode, Brian Johnson will face former ROH Pure Champion John Walters in a Pure Rules Match, and as announced last week, Lee will defend the ROH World Television Title against former ROH World Champion Dalton Castle.

LuFisto was my guest on the latest episode of The ROHStrong Podcast, which drops this Monday morning on ROHWrestling.com and most podcast platforms.

She talked about being the innovator of intergender wresting and the challenges that came along with it; competing in hardcore and death matches against Necro Butcher and Nick Gage; being a panelist on “Beyond the Belles;” her assessment of the ROH women’s division; being diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2018; her love of metal music, and much more.

All six matches on the show are compelling, but the one I’m most excited for is the first-ever singles meeting between Brody King and Jonathan Gresham.

King needs the win to hold on to his No. 1 ranking in the ROH World Title division. Gresham, the No. 4-ranked contender, needs to defeat King to move into the top three and thus be eligible to receive a title shot.

It looks like a mismatch at first glance because of King’s major size advantage, but Gresham’s elite technical wrestling and submission skills are great equalizers

A six-man tag match between The Righteous (Vincent, Bateman and Dutch) and The Foundation (Gresham, Williams and Rhett Titus) headlines this weekend’s episode of Ring of Honor Wrestling.

Also on the show: The OGK (Taven and Mike Bennett) faces PJ Black and Flip Gordon, and Beer City Bruiser takes on Caprice Coleman.
