Glory By Honor Night 2 Recap: Vincent Prevails Over Matt Taven In Bloody, Brutal Last Stand Inside Steel Cage

August 23, 2021

,PHILADELPHIA — The Last Stand ended in shocking fashion. What was billed as the last battle in the long war between Matt Taven and Vincent concluded with Vincent standing victorious over the fallen Taven in the steel cage match main event at Glory By Honor Night 2 on Saturday Night inside Philadelphia’s 2300 Arena. Many fans and observers believed this would be the night Vincent finally got his comeuppance at the hands of Taven, but The Righteous leader turned that conventional thinking into a state of helter skelter. The former friends engaged in one of the most violent brawls in ROH history, as barbed wire, thumb tacks and even an ax were used as weapons. Both men were bloody and battered, but only the former ROH World Champion was beaten. With the victory, Vincent obtained Taven’s future shot at the ROH World Title. Here are the complete results from the show: Dalton Castle defeated Danhausen Danhausen was in control until Dak Draper, Castle’s protege, came off commentary and distracted him. Castle attacked Danhausen from behind and rammed him into the barricade. Later, Danhausen brought his jar of teeth into the ring, but it ended up backfiring on him. Castle hit Bang-a-Rang on Danhausen onto the teeth for the win. Pure Rules Match: LSG defeated World Famous CB CB nailed LSG with Shotei, but LSG used his third rope break to avoid defeat. LSG rallied by hitting an Ace Crusher, followed by Rocket-Bye-Baby. LSG then pinned CB with a crucifix. Rok-C and Miranda Alize defeated Willow and Chelsea Green Willow hit Bae-Breaker on Alize and a cannonball on Rok-C in the corner, but she came up empty on a moonsault. Rok-C immediately hit Code Rock on Willow for the win. ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Title Match: Champions Shane Taylor Promotions (Shane Taylor and Soldiers of Savagery’s Moses and Kaun w/O’Shay Edwards and Rev. Ron Hunt) defeated Incoherence (Delirious, Hallowicked and Frightmare w/UaMantis Black) The wildly unorthodox Incoherence provided a stiff challenge for the champions. Frightmare and Hallowicked hit a tandem cutter on Taylor off the top rope. Delirious followed with a splash off the top rope onto Taylor’s back. Delirious made the cover, but Kaun broke up the pin just in time. Taylor set up Frightmare for Welcome to the Land, but Frightmare slipped free and rolled up Taylor for an extremely close near fall. Taylor connected on a knee to Frightmare’s face and followed with a package piledriver for the win. STP improved to 8-0 in six-man matches, including six title defenses (four in ROH, two outside of ROH). After the match, EC3 –who was coming out to sit in on commentary during the next match — engaged in a staredown with Taylor on the stage. Mark Briscoe and Brian Johnson defeated Flip Gordon and Demonic Flamita This was originally scheduled to be a tag team match but Jay Briscoe wasn’t able to compete due to COVID-19 protocols. Mark was informed that the match would be removed from the show unless he could find a partner. It just so happened that Johnson was throwing a tantrum about not being booked in his hometown, so Mark found his partner. Briscoe and Johnson were actually working well together until Gordon shoved Briscoe into Johnson. Johnson blew up at Briscoe and walked off. Gordon threw a chair into the ring for Demonic Flamita to use, but Flamita flipped off Flip. Flamita then tagged in Gordon with a hard slap to the chest. Gordon responded by spitting in Flamita’s face. An enraged Flamita tried to go after his partner, but the referee held him back. While the referee was dealing with Flamita, Briscoe planted Gordon with a piledriver on the chair for the win. Gordon was helped to the back after the match. The Foundation (Jay Lethal, Pure Champion Jonathan Gresham, Tracy Williams and Rhett Titus) defeated Violence Unlimited (Brody King, Tony Deppen and ROH World Tag Team Champions Chris Dickinson and Homicide) This was a wild, back-and-forth match between factions with contrasting philosophies as to what ROH should be. At one point, King ran wild on all four of his opponents. He hit a Death Valley Driver on Williams onto Titus, who was slumped in the corner. King then hit a suicide dive on Lethal. He tossed Lethal back into the ring and covered him, but Gresham made the save. Dickinson hit a fireman’s carry slam on Gresham off the apron and through a table. A short time later, Lethal hit Lethal Injection on Deppen for the victory. After the match, VU laid out all four members of The Foundation. Dickinson issued a challenge to any Pure wrestlers past, present or future. RUSH and ROH World Television Champion Dragon Lee defeated ROH World Champion Bandido and Rey Horus Former ROH World Champion RUSH attacked Bandido — the man who defeated him for the title last month — before the bell and slammed a chair on his knee. Lee tried to prevent RUSH from doing further damage. RUSH grabbed his brother by the throat and yelled at him. Eventually, the brothers hugged, and Lee put the boots to his friend, Bandido. RUSH was hobbled by a knee injury during the match, but he was able to hit Bull’s Horns on Horus for the win. Afterwards, Lee and Bandido showed mutual respect for one another, which did not sit well with RUSH. Steel Cage Match: Vincent defeated Matt Taven The battle started outside the cage and went all over the 2300 Arena. After the fight eventually made it inside the cage, Vincent locked them in. Bateman came down and slid barbed wire into the cage. Mike Bennett, who was sitting in on commentary, went after Bateman, and they brawled. Vincent used the barbed wire to turn Taven’s face into a crimson mask. Later, Taven returned the favor. Taven retrieved a purple ax and sliced Vincent’s head with it. Vita VonStarr came out and threw a red sack into the cage. Taven grabbed it. VonStarr climbed to the top of the cage and attempted to dive onto Taven, but he moved out of the way and she landed on Vincent. Taven poured thumb tacks out of the sack. VonStarr charged him and he back body-dropped her into the tacks. Vincent went for a running knee but inadvertently hit VonStarr. Taven hit Climax on Vincent into the tacks, but Vincent kicked out. Taven went for a splash off the top of the cage, but Vincent moved out of the way and Taven landed in the tacks. Vincent hit Orange Sunshine into the tacks, but Taven kicked out.
