On November 20, via Twitter, Jon Jones announced that he will be competing in a grappling match against AEW’s Jake Hager. The match will take place at a Fury Grappling event in New Jersey on December 9.
Jones replied to a fan who corrected Jones on his slip up in the tweet where he referred to Hager as a ‘WWE Superstar.’ He admitted that he doesn’t yet know much about Hager and that he just found out today [about the fight.]
Jones last MMA fight was at UFC 247 back on February 8 in 2020. In the bout, he retained the Light Heavyweight Title against Dominick Reyes. He would go on to relinquish the title later in the year due to conflict with the UFC President, Dana White, over his pay and his desired weight class.
Jones also implied that he will be reducing his smoking in order to improve his lungs in preparation for the contest.
The AEW superstar’s last fight was on October 29, 2020, where he defeated Brandon Calton at Bellator 250.
