Kenny Omega officially vacates the AAA Mega Championship(Update)

As previously noted, former AEW World Champion Kenny Omega has been dealing with a shoulder injury and vertigo aside from other injuries. On the November 17th, 2021 edition of AEW Dynamite, former world champion Kenny Omega said in a promo that he would be taking time off and asked The Young Bucks to “hold the fort” while he’s gone.

Earlier today it was reported by Davie Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio that Omega would soon be vacating his title, leading to his championship defense being canceled.

Earlier this afternoon Dorian Joaquín Roldán Peña, GM for AAA, announced that Omega has vacated the AAA Mega Championship due to injury.

“Por temas de lesión y cirugías, @KennyOmegamanX no podrá estar presente en #TriplemaniaRegia; por lo cual, a partir de este momento, el MegaCampeonato de @luchalibreaaa queda vacante, teniendo como primer retador a @vikingo_aaa; más noticias en breve.”

“Due to injury and surgery issues, @KennyOmegamanX may not be present at #TriplemaniaRegia ; Therefore, as of this moment, the Mega Championship of @luchalibreaaa remains vacant, with @vikingo_aaa as the first challenger; more news soon.

AAA Lucha Libre was reportedly informed of Omega’s decision on November 17.
