Well-traveled veterans Marti Belle and Holidead were awarded tickets to gold for the ROH Women’s Title Tournament by ROH Board of Directors member Maria Kanellis-Bennett Thursday night on YouTube.
Belle, who was trained by Hall of Famer Johnny Rodz and made her in-ring debut in 2009, owns victories over former world champions Sumie Sakai, Mia Yim, Madison Rayne and ODB, as well as fellow ticket to gold recipients Alex Gracia and Trish Adora.
One of Belle’s best friends, Allysin Kay, also is in the tournament, and Belle said she hopes they get to face each other.
“I hope that we are the final two,” Belle said. “There is nobody more deserving — other than myself — than Allysin Kay, and I know that she would say the same.”
The enigmatic Holidead, who describes herself as “Dr. Frankenstein meets Mr. Hyde,” is no stranger to ROH fans.
Holidead, who was trained by Gangrel and has been wrestling since 2013, made her ROH debut in 2017 and competed in the Women of Honor Title Tournament the following year. She and Thunder Rosa went on to form a successful tag team known as Twisted Sisterz. In ROH, Twisted Sisterz defeated Britt Baker and Rayne, and Sakai and Rayne.
After being presented her ticket to gold, Holidead said: “I want to thank my inner demons. I want to thank my dark thoughts, the monsters in my brain. I’ve got to thank my trainer, Gangrel, king of the darkness, of course. I think it is time for Ring of Honor’s women’s division to step into the dark side. Because you know with darkness they say comes light. And I am so sure that my dark path will be [the women’s division’s] shining light.”
The bracket for the tournament will be revealed at the Best in the World pay-per-view this Sunday in Baltimore.
