When Tony Deppen was revealed as a member of Violence Unlimited at the 19th Anniversary show in March, Kenny King chuckled.
No one is laughing at Deppen anymore.
Deppen defeated The Foundation’s Tracy Williams to win the ROH World Television Title during the first weekend of May. Not only was it the biggest win of Deppen’s 11-year career, but it also helped establish VU as a major player in ROH’s faction warfare.
The native of Hersehy, Pa., ended the month as part of another huge victory, as VU (Deppen, Brody King, Homicide and Chris Dickinson) beat The Foundation (Williams, Jay Lethal, Jonathan Gresham and Rhett Titus) in an eight-man tag match.
There is no shortage of worthy contenders for the ROH World Television Title, but any potential challenger who underestimates Deppen at this point does so at their own peril.
