Mike Bennett has won tag team titles in ROH and NJPW and experienced his share of success on his own, but a single championship in ROH has eluded him.
He’s looking to change that when he challenges for the ROH Pure Title at the Best in the World pay-per-view on July 11 in Baltimore.
Bennett will face the winner of the Pure Title Match between champion Jonathan Gresham and Fred Yehi, which takes place on this weekend’s episode of Ring of Honor Wrestling.
Bennett earned the title opportunity by winning a seven-man, Pure Gauntlet Match last week. Despite having never competed in a Pure Rules Match prior, Bennett defeated World Famous CB, Joe Keys and PJ Black in succession.
A mainstay in ROH from 2010-2015, Bennett has not been pinned or forced to submit in singles or tag team action since returning to the company late last year, so he’ll enter the match against Gresham or Yehi with plenty of momentum.
