NJPW Cancels Remaining January Events

Amid further outbreak of the Omicron COVID-19 strain in Japan, recently even toping 50,000 COVID daily cases for the first time on the 22nd, New Japan Pro-Wrestling has cancelled the shows remaining on their January schedule.

“With a number of wrestlers presenting elevated temperatures or being in close contact with the same, and in according with event protocols, New Japan Pro-Wrestling has arrived at the difficult decision to cancel or postpone remaining live events on the schedule for January,” New Japan continued in a statement on their website Monday morning, “We deeply apologized to the fans for the inconvenience, disappointment and concern caused by this decision and we appreciate your understanding.”

So far, three of the events for the New Year’s Golden Series have been canceled. The first was set to emanate from Toyota Crown Arena in Fukushima on January 25th. The second, set to take place on January 29th, was planned for Tokyo’s Korakuen Hall. January 30th’s Ibaraki show at Kamisu Bousai Arena has also been cancelled.

Meanwhile, the event scheduled for Friday, January 28th at Aichi has been postponed for April 18th at Nagoya Congress Center Event Hall. All ticket holders can request a refund, while tickets are also valid for the April 18th show. Touring will resume the first week of February in in Chiba. The February 7th show on NJPW World is still set to air and stream live.
