Rey Fenix Expected Back Sooner Than Initially Thought

January 20, 2022

On the debut episode of Dynamite on TBS, then-reigning Tag Team Champions The Lucha Brothers defend their gold against the team of Jungle Boy and Luchasauras, Jurassic Express.

The match ended with Jurassic Express coming out on top and capturing the AEW Tag Titles. Rey Fenix suffered an injury during the finish of the match. The injury occurred during a spot where Luchasauras attempted to chokeslam Fenix through a table of the apron. As Fenix tried to brace himself from the fall, it looked as if the luchador’s arm broke in half. While Fenix was expected to be out a few months at least, it now looks as though he might be back even sooner than expected.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, it was said that Fenix is hoping to make his return in the middle of February. This is certainly earlier than expected after the scary injury.

Fenix commented on the injury and stated that no one was to blame and that he would come back to the ring as a better version of himself. This is very good news for both AEW and the Lucha Brothers as they are one of the staples of AEW’s Tag Team Division.
