ROH Spotlights Outstanding Achievements Of Hispanic Stars For Hispanic Heritage Month

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, ROH is spotlighting some of the most memorable moments and outstanding achievements of our current Hispanic stars.

BANDIDO WINS ROH WORLD TITLE

Bandido went into his match against fellow Mexican star RUSH for the ROH World Title at Best in the World this past July as the underdog, but the high-flying luchador overcame the odds and beat the nearly unbeatable champion. Bandido became the second Mexican wrestler and first masked luchador to hold the championship.

ROK-C CROWNED FIRST ROH WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPION

The 19-year-old “Prodigy” made history by winning the Quest for Gold tournament to become the inaugural ROH Women’s World Champion. On her road to the title, Rok-C defeated former world champions Angelina Love and Sumie Sakai. In the final at Death Before Dishonor last month, Rok-C scored a hard-fought victory over fellow Latina Miranda Alize.

MATT TAVEN CAPTURES ROH WORLD TITLE AT MSG

Taven, who is of Puerto Rican descent, captured the richest prize in professional wrestling when he won a three-way ladder match at G1 Supercard before a sold-out crowd in Madison Square Garden in April 2019. Taven became just the second Grand Slam champion in ROH, having previously held the World Television Title, World Tag Team Title and World Six-Man Tag Team Title.

DRAGON LEE WINS IWGP JUNIOR HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE AT MSG

On the same show in which Taven won the ROH World Title, Lee defeated defending champion Taiji Ishimori and Bandido in a triple threat match to become just the third Mexican wrestler to win New Japan’s IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title. Lee went on to become a two-time ROH World Television Champion and two-time ROH World Tag Team Champion.

HOMICIDE BEATS BRYAN DANIELSON TO WIN ROH WORLD TITLE

Homicide, who is of Puerto Rican descent, became the eighth man to hold the ROH World Title when he ended Bryan Danielson’s 462-day reign at Final Battle in December 2006. Nearly 15 years later, Homicide captured the ROH World Tag Team Title as a member of Violence Unlimited with Chris Dickinson

MANDY LEON BLAZES A TRAIL IN WOMEN OF HONOR

Leon, who is of Cuban and Puerto Rican descent, was at the forefront when ROH launched its first official women’s division in 2015 and branded it Women of Honor. “The Exotic Goddess” defeated Deonna Purrazzo in the inaugural WOH match, and she also competed in the first women’s no-disqualification match and two-out-of-three falls match.
