ROH TV Preview: Deppen Defends TV Title Against Lee, Williams In Triple Threat; Bandido Faces Bateman In Survival Of The Fittest Qualifier

Here’s a preview of this weekend’s episode of “Ring of Honor Wrestling:”

ROH World Television Title Triple Threat Match: Champion Tony Deppen vs. Dragon Lee vs. “Hot Sauce” Tracy Williams

The ROH World Television Title is the prize in the latest battle between warring factions Violence Unlimited, La Faccion Ingobernable and The Foundation.

VU’s Deppen shocked the wrestling world when he won the championship last month from The Foundation’s Williams, who was making his first title defense since capturing the title at the 19th Anniversary pay-per-view in March.

In that match, Williams defeated Kenny King, who was defending the title on behalf of fellow LFI member Lee, who was unable to compete because he was recovering from surgery to repair a ruptured eardrum.

After winning the title from Shane Taylor at Final Battle in December 2019, Lee made five successful title defenses, including one against Deppen at Final Battle 2020 six months ago.

“Tony Deppen. For real, you’re the champion? I can’t believe it,” Lee said. “I never lost the championship. But no problem, no worries. It’s OK. That’s why we have opportunities, me and Tracy. But who’s Tracy? I’m the best in the world, Dragon Lee. I will never, ever lose. Remember that Dragon Lee is always the winner,”

Williams, who is currently a co-holder of the ROH World Tag Team Title, said this match provides him an opportunity to avenge his loss to Deppen and prove that he can beat Lee.

“This is a chance to right two wrongs and set the course straight, and stand tall at the end of the night as the rightful Ring of Honor Television Champion,” Williams said.

Deppen is out to prove that his title win was no fluke.

“People keep talking about how I’m the least violent member of Violence Unlimited,” Deppen said. “No. I am the least sane member in Violence Unlimited. Because I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make sure I win my match. And I’m going to show you that when I defeat ‘Hot Sauce’ Tracy Williams and Dragon Lee, so I can leave with the Ring of Honor Television Title.”

Survival of the Fittest Qualifying Match: Bandido vs. Bateman

Bandido has had future world champion written all over him ever since he made his ROH debut in early 2019.

Surprisingly, Bandido has had just one opportunity at a singles championship — he unsuccessfully challenged Taylor for the ROH World Television Title in June 2019.

If Bandido can defeat Bateman, the sensational luchador will advance to the Survival of the Fittest six-way elimination final for a shot at the ROH World Title, the richest prize in the sport.

“This is the first step to be a world champion,” Bandido said. “That is the reason why ‘The Most Wanted’ has come to Ring of Honor. I’m going to demonstrate why the Mexican people support me.”

Bateman has an entirely different motivation for winning Survival of the Fittest. He doesn’t seek personal glory; he lives to please Righteous leader Vincent.

“You may be doing this for family and your career, and good for you,” Bateman said of Bandido. “This isn’t about me. … This is about something bigger, something more important. If I have to walk through you, if I have to walk through 11 other people to be able to receive that title shot, to be able to take the title and hand it to the man that sits at the top of the mountain — hand it to Vincent — to see all the culmination of all this good work getting done, then that’s what I’m going to do.”
