WWE Holiday Tour Returns To New York On Sunday

WWE fans in New York won’t have to wait long to see their favorite superstars in action again.

This Sunday, the world famous Madison Square Garden venue will host a “WWE Live Holiday Tour” event at 7:30 p.m. EST. The show will take place one day before the final 2021 edition of Monday Night Raw, which will be held at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.

WWE has already pre-taped the Christmas Eve edition of Friday Night SmackDown (in Chicago, Illinois) that will air on Friday.

The MSG website has listed two matches for the Boxing Day special, both Steel Cage championship bouts.

Big E will defend his WWE Championship against Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens in a triple threat match — six days before the Day 1 pay-per-view.

On this week’s episode of Raw, Owens and Rollins teamed up against Lashley and Big E in the main event.

Although The Almighty and The Power of Positivity emerged victorious (Lashley pinned Owens), The Prized Fighter and The Architect worked together in attacking both stars, which is a strong indicator that they’ll be working together as a tag team going forward.

The other announced match will see Becky Lynch try to retain her Raw Women’s Championship when she goes one-on-one with former SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair.

It should be noted, of course, that Big E is also slated to defend the title against Owens, Rollins and Bobby Lashley in a Fatal Four-Way match on Day 1. Lynch is also scheduled to put the title on the line against Liv Morgan.

For Day 1, Big E and Lynch are listed as -165 and -185 favorites to retain their championships, respectively. DraftKings New York has several promos for new customers, including a free $50 bet.

Other Stars In Action At MSG

The MSG website also lists Bobby Lashley, Finn Balor, AJ Styles, Omos, The Miz, The Street Profits, Riddle, Randy Orton, Rhea Ripley, Rey Mysterio, Damian Priest and Queen Zeliga as other superstars who will be in action.

On this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw, Omos and Styles split up as a tag team. They will face off at next week’s show in a singles match, and it’s very possible that WWE will decide to run a rematch at the world’s most famous arena.

Styles and Omos were previously in a feud with The Street Profits prior to their split. As such, it’s anybody’s guess what WWE will do with Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford going forward, especially considering that the Raw Tag Team Championships are currently held by RK-BRO, another babyface duo.

The Miz is in a program with Hall of Famer Edge, and the two will square off in a singles match on Day 1. However, The Rated-R Superstar only wrestles a handful of matches a year. He’s not being advertised for the MSG event, so expect The Miz to go up against another babyface on Boxing Day.

The MSG did note that the event card is subject to change. But there aren’t any more televised shows for Raw superstars before Sunday, so if there are any changes to the card, they shouldn’t be drastic ones.

Expect Big E & Lynch To Retain Their Titles Of Day 1

Since Sunday’s event is an untelevised match, Big E and Lynch are virtual locks to retain their respective titles.

Major titles never change hands at house shows/untelevised events. WWE has been building toward Day 1 for several weeks now, and it wouldn’t make sense to have Big E or Lynch drop their championships six days before the first pay-per-view of 2021.

Both Big E and Lynch have rarely taken clean losses during their current tenures as championship holders. Even if Big E were to drop the title at Day 1, it’s quite likely that Lashley, Owens or Rollins will take the pinfall or submission instead.

There are six total confirmed matches for Day 1. Aside from the previously mentioned WWE Championship, Raw Women’s Championship and Edge vs. Miz bouts, we will also see Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship, The Usos vs. The New Day for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships and a singles match Drew McIntyre vs. Madcap Moss.
