There is a story in the Bible about Peter and John healing a crippled beggar. I’ve read this story plenty of times in my life, but this year there was something different about it for me.
In the story, a 40-year-old man has been crippled long enough for his livelihood to be affected. I put myself in his shoes. If I couldn’t walk and all of a sudden my legs were healed, nobody would be able to tell me what to do with my legs.
I would probably run everywhere I go. I would sign up for 5Ks and 20Ks. I would dance the latest dances (I’m guessing the Bible had some James Brownites). I’d probably be the last person to take a seat anywhere.
I also know that people would see me and say, “This guy is doing too much. Look at him, he’s running everywhere and rarely sits down.”
Clearly, these people don’t know this guy’s story. I normally would end it there by saying that if you knew his story you would stand with him in support.
Now I’m questioning how many of us are taking for granted simple things that would mean the world to someone else. We have our legs, life, health, and strength. We often take them for granted and almost feel entitled to them.
However, many would love to have the simple things we take for granted, such as having a roof over our heads, clothes on our backs and food to eat.
It challenged me to make sure that I am thankful for the things I overlook every day.
Happy Thanksgiving.
Just something to think about. I call it a dose of Colemanism.
