Jason David Frank, the original Green Ranger from “Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers,” has become an increasingly frequent guest on WWE platforms over the past several years, doing everything from attending Royal Rumble events, heading backstage at Monday Night Raw and even facing off against Xavier Woods on UpUpDownDown. WWE.com caught up with the comic con king and pop culture icon to get his thoughts on his WWE experiences, whether or not he’d ever want to step in the ring and which WWE Superstars he’d like to see suit up in Power Ranger spandex.
WWE.com: The first WWE event you went to was Royal Rumble 2017 in San Antonio. What were your initial impressions of the incredible spectacle that WWE puts on?
JASON DAVID FRANK: It was an [amazing] vibe. The funny thing is, I’ve worked with all these guys at comic cons — Seth Rollins, The Bella Twins, everybody — so they didn’t know I’m coming, and then [when I got there], it was almost like we were back at a con! The vibe was high energy and fun.
WWE.com: You’re an incredible athlete yourself, undefeated in MMA and a Hall of Fame martial artist. Do you ever watch WWE competition and get the itch to step in the ring yourself?
JDF: The things that [WWE Superstars] do are incredible. They’re doing flips, and this and that. They do 200 shows a year, so their cardio is fantastic. They’re all tough, they’re all strong. So, can I step in the ring? Yes. There are a lot of things I probably couldn’t do in the WWE ring, but there’s a lot of things I can do [too]. I would love to make a guest appearance.
WWE.com: Knowing so many of the Superstars as well as you do now, who do you think, male or female, would make the best Power Ranger?
JDF: I like Finn Bálor. It would be great to see someone like that [as] a Power Ranger. He’s so unique. The accent and the vibe are so different. As far as the women, I’d like to see Paige. I’ve known her for quite some time and I think she would make a good Pink Ranger. It would be cool to see her [in that role]. But Nikki Bella too, she’s always sweet.
WWE.com: You have a great relationship with Xavier Woods and the UpUpDownDown video game channel. Talk a little about your dynamic with him and your time on the channel playing “Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: Mega Battle.”
JDF: To back up, I think Xavier would make a great Power Ranger! He does the fan film stuff, he’s a sharp kid, he’s in shape, has great skill and an outgoing personality. So I think he’d be good! And doing UpUpDownDown with him was great. I don’t know much about video games, even though I do have my own video game coming out called My Morphin’ Life, but it was interesting going [on the channel] and playing [as] my character. They really made me feel at home. Sometimes, when you go to a new place, you don’t know how people are going to act or treat you, but backstage everybody was like “Hey, Jason! How’s it going?” I knew everybody, even in the world of WWE, which is super crazy because that’s not my genre, but it was really good. The guys had so much energy and it was just a great episode to film.
