A Dose Of Colemanism: When Receiving Compliments, Remember It’s Not All About You

This week we finished a round of TV tapings and I made it home from the bubble. I’m very happy that everybody involved in the tapings remained COVID-free.

While at the tapings, I remembered the huge compliments lan Riccaboni and I recently received from former pro wrestling manager and producer Jim Cornette, who spoke very highly of us as a commentary team.

I also thought about how one fan intentionally misinterpreted Jim’s comments. From that incident, Ian and I began receiving many compliments from fans saying we are the best commentary team in professional wrestling and I am the best color commentator! It was very nice to get those accolades from people I didn’t know, but it felt even better having these compliments endorsed by our co-workers.

However, I know it’s not just us. There is a huge team at Ring of Honor that works with us to make sure the product is top notch. There are editors, producers and camera men that are part of a huge team effort to make everybody look good.

There are times when certain people stand out because of circumstances. I believe the pandemic and having no crowd allowed us to stand out. It’s easy to start feeling yourself in these situations and thinking it’s all about you, but it’s not.

In life, many of us have accomplished great things and become more than what we were expected to be. It’s easy to say, ‘I did this myself.’ However, you’d really be overlooking the team behind you.

It’s all a team effort, and sometimes you’re just the front man of the team. Trust me, if that front man forgets about his team, it wouldn’t take long before he realizes his mistake.

Even you are the result of a team effort. Your current state and existence is a result of good and bad influences, mentors, coaches, teachers, friends, and family that all have impacted you in a way to influence your decisions in life. Sometimes it takes the bad influences to make the good ones clear. It all works together.

Never forget where you come from. Take time to recognize, appreciate and thank the ones who helped you along the way. Pay the good things forward. Your team did a great job; you should be proud.

Just something to think about. I call it a dose of Colemanism.
