The King of the Monsters is officially heading back to the desert. CinemaCon 2026 just got a massive power-up as it was announced that GKIDS and Academy Award-winning director Takashi Yamazaki will take the main stage for the first time at Caesars Palace Colosseum to kick off the Tuesday studio presentations.

Fans of the franchise have plenty to be excited about. Yamazaki, the visionary behind the global phenomenon “Godzilla Minus One,” will be making his CinemaCon debut to showcase exclusive sneak peek footage of the highly anticipated follow-up, “Godzilla Minus Zero.” This is a neat full-circle moment to when TOHO President Hiro Matsuoka took the stage at CinemaCon 2024 to celebrate the historic release of “Minus One” and highlight Godzilla’s 70th anniversary.

This presentation marks a major milestone for GKIDS, the powerhouse distributor recently acquired by TOHO. Opening the “State of the Industry” slot on Tuesday morning, GKIDS represents a shift in how the industry is embracing international cinema and alternative storytelling as something audiences are clamoring to see.

“The future strength of our industry depends on a year-round diverse slate of films that speaks to the broad range of moviegoing audiences around the world. GKIDS exemplifies a commitment to diverse moviegoing choices, and we are thrilled to be working with them,” said Michael O’Leary, President and CEO of Cinema United.

“We are longtime champions of the importance of the shared theatrical experience,” said David Jesteadt, President of GKIDS. “We believe there’s no better place to kick off Yamazaki-san’s ‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ than at CinemaCon with the folks who present that movie magic on the big screen: the cinema owners.”

While convention goers get the first look in April, audiences won’t have to wait too long for the “Godzilla Minus Zero.” TOHO will release it theatrically in Japan on Tuesday, November 3, with GKIDS set to launch a wide theatrical release across North America on Friday, November 6, 2026.

Hosted by Cinema United, CinemaCon is the world’s premier showcase of theatrical exhibition, taking place April 13-16, 2026 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, NV.
