Fans of Kevin Smith’s Askewniverse and classic side-scrolling brawlers finally have a release date to circle.

Interabang Entertainment, in collaboration with Digital Eclipse, has announced that Jay and Silent Bob: Chronic Blunt Punch will launch on April 20 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. The long-awaited beat ’em up was revealed during The MIX Spring Showcase, confirming that the game’s years-in-the-making journey is nearly over.

Designed as a love letter to classic co-op arcade beat ’em ups, Jay and Silent Bob: Chronic Blunt Punch blends hand-drawn visuals, tag-team combat, and irreverent Askewniverse energy into a side-scrolling action game built for both longtime Kevin Smith fans and players looking for something more than a simple button masher.

A Beat ’Em Up Built on the Askewniverse

The game follows Jay and Silent Bob on a chaotic journey that stretches from the familiar corners of the Askewniverse all the way to the gates of hell. Along the way, players can swap between the duo on the fly, unleash special moves, and even bring in a second player for co-op action.

While the game clearly draws inspiration from arcade brawlers, the combat also takes cues from one-on-one fighting games, allowing players to master combos, unlock new moves, and call in assists when the action gets especially wild.

That approach gives the game more depth than a typical retro throwback.

According to Interabang’s Co-Founder and Creative Director Justin Woodward, the team wanted to create something that felt true to Kevin Smith’s world while standing on its own as a strong action game.

“We set out to create a great game set in Kevin Smith’s Askewniverse, and the result authentically represents what makes his movies so memorable and hilarious,” said Woodward.

Kevin Smith also weighed in on the launch announcement, confirming the title’s long-awaited arrival.

“We said it was coming, and here it is,” said Smith. “An incredible amount of effort and artistry went into Chronic Blunt Punch and I am excited to share that everyone can start playing on 4-20.”
