The Masters of the Universe trailer has officially arrived, offering the first full look at Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel’s live-action adaptation of the iconic franchise ahead of its theatrical release on June 5, 2026. Directed by Travis Knight, the film brings the world of Eternia back to the big screen with a modern, large-scale reimagining of the beloved property.

Set to release in the U.S. via Amazon MGM Studios, with international distribution handled by Sony Pictures International Releasing, the film marks a major step forward in Mattel’s growing slate of brand-led entertainment following the global success of Barbie.

Eternia Returns to the Big Screen

Masters of the Universe centers on Prince Adam, played by Nicholas Galitzine, who is drawn back to Eternia after being separated from his home for 15 years. When he returns, he finds the planet under the rule of the villainous Skeletor, played by Jared Leto.

To save his world, Adam must embrace his destiny as He-Man and join forces with Teela, played by Camila Mendes, and Duncan, also known as Man-At-Arms, played by Idris Elba. The trailer leans into heroism, transformation, and legacy, positioning the story as both a large-scale fantasy adventure and a personal journey of self-discovery.

The footage also emphasizes the film’s theatrical scale, from its production design and visual effects to the larger-than-life action that has long defined the Masters of the Universe brand.

A Franchise Built Across Generations

First launched as Mattel’s toy line in the early 1980s, Masters of the Universe has remained a pop culture fixture through animated series, comics, and earlier screen adaptations. He-Man and the world of Eternia have endured because the franchise speaks to multiple generations, balancing mythic adventure with a clear sense of good versus evil.

This new live-action version appears built with that wide audience in mind. Longtime fans will recognize core characters and lore, while newer viewers are being introduced to the property through a more cinematic, contemporary lens. That multi-generational reach remains one of the franchise’s biggest strengths.

The ensemble cast also includes Alison Brie, James Purefoy, Morena Baccarin, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, and Charlotte Riley, with Kristen Wiig voicing Roboto.

Mattel Expands the Experience Beyond the Screen

Alongside the trailer, Mattel has launched its “Become Eternian” digital experience, giving fans a way to engage with the world of the film ahead of release. The interactive promotion invites users to upload a selfie, take a short quiz, and discover whether they align more as a Hero or a Villain in Eternia.

Fans can also generate a custom character reveal and shop made-to-order merchandise tied to their digital alter ego. It is a clear extension of the kind of world-building that modern franchise campaigns increasingly rely on, especially for properties with deep fan roots and strong visual identity.

Following Barbie, Masters of the Universe represents another major test of Mattel’s growing feature film strategy. It also underscores how legacy toy brands are being repositioned for modern theatrical audiences through event-style releases and immersive marketing.
