His time is now: Who knew John Cena could turn “Hustle, Loyalty and Respect” into “Sellout, Disloyalty and Disrespect” so flawlessly? With a demonic look, the “proceed as planned” throat slash by The Final Boss and a low blow later brought kids to tears and left thirty-somethings questioning their childhood. John Cena turned to the dark side and now the real work begins. Cena’s decision to go down this route professionally at this point in his career is a significant gamble and he needs to be commended for that. Just like Triple H said afterward, Cena could’ve cruised into retirement doing the same schtick he did for the past 20 years, but he wanted to challenge himself. And this is a huge challenge. Can Cena be a believable bad guy? That’s where I sit with this right now. It’s not like he won’t be capable but being viewed one way for your entire career and now having limited opportunities to switch that entirely is daunting. So much for just cruising into retirement. Good for him for pushing himself to the limits.

Liv hitting another level: You figured that once The Liv Morgan’s Revenge Tour concluded and she dropped the title to Rhea Ripley, she might slide back into a mid-card role for a while and that would be that. Whoever thought that sure was wrong. Morgan didn’t win the Women’s Elimination Chamber Match but stole the show. There is no denying that she is a legitimate Main Eventer based on what she does in the ring. When was the last time you saw her have a bad match? She will be remembered mostly for the hair whip she took from Bianca Belair at the Chamber Match, but it was her in-ring work, the nuances of morphing into a can’t-miss star, and her talent that set her apart. When Triple H calls you a “megastar” 20 minutes after arguably the biggest heel turn in company history, that says plenty.

A must-watch: It’s become clear that the PLE Post-Shows are an absolute can’t-miss for fans. The fact that it is not part of the show but instead gives you more of a view of the inner workings of the business is fascinating. Sure, it can be used to make a point like Cena’s mic drop or even Roman Reigns a while back never wavering from the Tribal Chief role alongside Paul Heyman. They are even better when Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson takes a seat at the table. I’ve been a part of thousands of news conferences on the professional sports stage before but never come across a person who seems to enjoy it as much as The Rock. Soaking in how he approached his role in the Cena turn, the nuance involved with it, and how it was carefully thought out and how they prepared for the possible unknown is something enjoyable to hear.

Zig when they zag: Jade Cargill’s return was bound to happen at the Women’s Elimination Chamber, but I am pretty sure you didn’t have her coming out before the match started to take out Naomi. Moving away from the same old tropes, in this instance, having Cargill do her deed during the match rather than before, keeps things fresh and interesting. We still have no idea why Cargill is sore at Naomi and still aren’t sure who attacked her last year that kept her out of action for months but will find out in due time.

Walking that line: The little things make the big things pop. The Unsanctioned Match between Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn could easily go from the silly to the sublime or vice versa. It is a fine line that Owens and Zayn were able to tow nicely at Elimination Chamber. There was violence but not gratuitous violence. There were weapons but not a garbage can filled with nun chucks, frying pans, and cookie sheets. The hockey stick made sense. The barbed wire chair was more mood-setting than for violence. It was pulled off as best as a gimmick match can be pulled off and that started from the outset with small things like the dimmed lights and the referee not wearing his traditional ref gear. Owens, as I continue to say, is a star. You’d expect him to pull off a match like this. Zayn gets a standing ovation because he was in the crease step-for-step with KO.

Making it work: On the surface, it seemed like a missed opportunity to not capitalize on the new eyeballs that surely tuned into Raw to see what all the hub-bub was about with not only Cena turning heel but the reactions from Cody Rhodes, The Final Boss and to a lesser degree, Cargill, Naomi, Randy Orton, KO, and Zayn – all of who had a big part of the buzz surrounding the Elimination Chamber. We didn’t hear a new word from any of the players involved but, what do they say? Absence makes the heart grow fonder? The WWE choose that path … kind of. Putting together the package mid-show recapping the betrayal and the flawless cinematic presentation of it accomplished almost as much as if Cena came out and explained himself from the start. In reality, it made you want more. The WWE is so far ahead of the game in terms of their “short movie” packages that it is something that they can use to enhance the show.

Pipe Bomb or Promo?: CM Punk has always talked about breaking down that proverbial fourth wall in terms of blurring the lines of what is part of the show and what’s not and nobody has done it better than him. The opening of Raw straddled that line to the point where you found yourself asking yourself (or at least I did) whether what Punk was saying was part of his scripted promo or yet another instance of him speaking his mind and not giving a damn about it. It was that good. With Raw being impossible to live up to the expectations set by what happened at Elimination Chamber two days before that, Punk coming out hot was the perfect elixir. Torching The Final Boss personally and professionally with maybe the line of the night: “Bald fraud” before moving on to unload on “Dwayne” by bringing up his place on the TKO Board of Directors, his (expletive) goosebumps gimmick and his delusional People’s Championship. Cena was the next target followed by Seth Rollins. The lines were blurred to me.

A General couple of weeks: First it was Akira Tozawa and on Monday it was Otis for WWE World Heavyweight Champion Gunther. It raises questions as to whether things can remain fresh until WrestleMania when Jey Uso will face Gunther for the title. It can’t be easy to keep raising the stakes for a match set for the end of April. How much farther can Gunther take this without losing all the momentum? The introduction of A-Town Down Under should freshen it up and buy some time. If played correctly (and there’s no reason to believe it won’t be), there will be plenty of heat come the end of April. Patience, my friend, patience.

The middle of Raw had some ups and downs but Punk’s blowup to start the show and SKY shocking Rhea Ripley in the main event to steal Mami’s spot at WrestleMania and rip the Women’s World Championship from around her waist took advantage of the momentum provided by Elimination Chamber.

Odds and ends: The Creed Brothers have real talent and had a good match a month ago against the War Raiders that ended in a disqualification for Brutus and Julius. A return match on Raw on Monday for the tag team titles was won by the War Raiders, which was a disappointment because it looks like the Creeds are back to square one now. … Karrion Kross is just a fabulous, for a lack of better terms, crap stirrer. I’d like to see him in the ring more to accent that talent. … KO bit Sami’s nose. That’s dedication. … If Ludwig Kaiser faces Penta at WrestleMania, it will be a serious Match of the Year candidate. … The way Punk hugged Cena inside the Chamber threw me off the scent that something was different when he hugged Rhodes before low-blowing him.
