This is the fourth installment of “The Fountain of Youth” series and the second focusing on health.

After understanding how much my food choices affected my body, I tried many diets to find out which one was best.

I know that a lot of people want to eat right. However, the more health-conscious we are, the more expensive healthy choices seem. We have to be willing to invest in our bodies and not in quick fixes to make these changes. We also need to understand that in many cases our bodies are self-indulged.

I remember when I started making healthy shakes at home using real fruits. My daughter was excited about getting a real strawberry milkshake, but then the frown and disgust on her face quickly reminded me that she was used to artificially flavored stuff, not the real thing.

This is the case with many of us. We have to retrain our taste buds to taste real food and not expect the artificial taste that many food companies try to sell us on by adding more sugar, salt and fillers.

In actuality, most diets work in their own way if we can stick to them. We just have to find out which plan works best for the individual’s health needs, lifestyle, and goals.

It’s easy to say, “Oh, I want to lose weight.” Well, some people want to gain weight, but in a healthy way. I’ve been through both stages.

They have these basics in common: eating clean by trying your best to stay away from processed and fried foods; reducing your sugar and salt intakes; and drinking plenty of water.

I drink water more than anything else. Things that are added to water give it liquidated access to your system; this is the science behind coffee and soda rushes. Drinking water also saves a lot of money at restaurants.

The body is a magnificent creation; how great its Creator must be. The body will do whatever it is trained to do, and that’s true for everyone from Olympians to couch potatoes.

Just something to think about. I call it a dose of Colemanism.
