One is an injury. The other is a sign of healing. Confusing the two can be harmful on both sides.
A wound is a result of an injury that has torn through the outer layer deep enough to cause serious concerns such as infection and lack of vitality. It could be physical, mental, or systemic. In some cases, if left untreated it could cause death (in more ways than one).
If you treat a wound as if it’s a scar, it’ll never heal properly and could worsen. This is the reason why so many situations are never resolved. It’s impossible to recover from a gunshot wound that hasn’t been treated properly.
A scar is the result of the body proving it can handle it from here. Minor injuries often scar fast because the body is made to constantly regenerate, so subtle abnormalities are mostly minuscule.
However, if you treat a scar as if it’s still a wound, you’ll break the protective layer and cause it to bleed again.
Scars can be celebrated because they’re a sign of sufficient healing. A wound will need tending to until healing can take place.
I think we’d save a lot of time if we really tended to our wounds and started to appreciate our scars.
