A Dose Of Colemanism: Spirituality
By Caprice Coleman
This is Part II of “The Fountain of Youth” series.
In my opinion, spirituality is a guided structure that teaches you how to train your mind and spirit.
Although I am a Christian, my intention is not to force a religion on anyone. I’m focusing on the similar guidelines that religion infers and how they relate.
Think of it as a personal trainer for your spirit. When you’re already used to spiritually training, it’s easier to translate physically.
I can sum this up in what I call the three “S’s” — stress, structure and stability.
Stress has proven to be a major factor in aging. With spirituality, believing in a higher being helps reduce stress by having the ability to release things out of your control to your higher being. In my case it’s the assurance and peace that comes with prayer.
Structure provides the guidelines in religions that we try to stick to. When we don’t line up, we know we’ve crossed a line, either willingly or unwillingly.
There’s also a structure in many religions that are intended for longevity. In my religion it would be the Ten Commandments. With this type of structure there are already responsibilities that fall in place in the translation from spiritual to physical.
Stability is the baseline in religion of knowing who you are. “I am a (fill in the blank with your belief)” rarely changes in a person. The same stability can be applied to any fitness plan or diet. Whether it’s saying you’re a vegetarian, vegan or whatever you choose, having stability can make it easier to stay with it.
I believe spiritually this is the most important part of my fountain of youth. Hopefully this helps in how you build yours.
Just something to think about. I call it a dose of Colemanism.
