AEW Dynamite Preview for September 23, 2020

September 23, 2020

After a rocking LATE NIGHT DYNAMITE on Tuesday, plus a stacked AEW DARK card on our official YouTube channel (Watch Here), we are right back at it on Wednesday night with a LIVE DYNAMITE at 8pm EST/7pm CST right there on TNT! Last week was rather explosive with the Parking Lot Fight between Proud-N-Powerful and The Best Friends, the tensions between World Champion Jon Moxley and his FULL GEAR foe Lance Archer escalating, and the NWA World Women’s Title match between Thunder Rosa and Ivelisse leading to a double team assault on the victorious champ.

As the saying goes though, the best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry, and tonight is certainly one of those nights! Unexpected changes had to be made to the DYNAMITE, and as a result, the AEW World Champion Jon Moxley has demanded to put his title on the line! Plus THE BEST MAN Miro will make his in-ring debut alongside Kip Sabian, we will hear from Matt Hardy and Private Party, the NWA & AEW Women’s champions will unite, and Orange Cassidy gets his much-deserved reward!

AEW WORLD TITLE MATCH…

Jon Moxley (c) vs. “The Mad King” Eddie Kingston

And just like that the fortunes of one man shift and he now finds himself with an unexpected chance at immortality, but if you ask Eddie Kingston he will tell you (as he has told the world repeatedly) that this World Title opportunity is something he deserves. Eddie was not eliminated from the Casino Battle Royale, a fact he made clear the very first opportunity he had after the fact and he has not relented in pressing the point at every opportunity.

Well now “The Mad King” gets the opportunity of a lifetime in front of the whole world on DYNAMITE, a chance to make his nearly twenty years of grinding pay off by dethroning Jon Moxley as the AEW World Champion. Mox has held that belt since REVOLUTION, over 200 days now, and turned back the challenges of Brian Cage, Mr. Brodie Lee, Darby Allin, MJF, and Jake Hager. It’s been a rough ride, the champ was even on the receiving end of a nasty beating just one week ago, but by now everyone is aware that Moxley will fight through absolutely any pain he is able, and ignore any injure he is allowed, especially where that AEW World Title is concerned.

For both men, this is a tremendous curveball from how they expected to spend their night tonight, but it is certainly a thrilling turn for Moxley, Kingston, and especially the AEW faithful around the globe who now get a World Title match on DYNAMITE!

TNT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH…

Mr. Brodie Lee (c) vs. “Freshly Squeezed” Orange Cassidy

One man came off a pay-per-view defeat at ALL OUT 2020, his second PPV loss in a row to be precise, and unleashed his fury on Dustin Rhodes. It marked the man’s very first TNT Championship defense, and proved a vicious personal redemption following his team dropping the ball.

The other enters this match having won the most high profile fight of his life on that same PPV, and over a sure fire first ballot Hall of Famer nonetheless. He comes to DYNAMITE as the challenger, receiving proper reward for his triumph, and aiming to claim his first AEW championship title.

It is the beloved Orange Cassidy going toe-to-toe with the reviled Mr. Brodie Lee, and the TNT Championship will be at stake. Cassidy may be heading into this with a world full of momentum, but he is certainly the underdog once more in this fight with a monster of a man. OC has the speed to hit and run, he has the skill to rip off a flash pin as witnessed in his first victory over Chris Jericho, and that Orange Punch carries with it serious knockout power.

Does any of that matter against a man like Mr. Brodie Lee? He may wear a suit outside the ring, and have a legion of followers under his Dark Order banner, but inside his heart is a true monster. If need be, Lee is capable of violent acts that make one want to avert their eyes and has no qualms about unleashing it, evidenced by the fate of Cody following their TNT Title match. Yet, even if you strip away that terrifying facet of Lee’s person, he remains a supremely talented wrestler whose size and power belay his ability to move with the grace, the speed of a cruiserweight grappler.

Come DYNAMITE, can OC reap the rewards of his Mimosa Mayhem conquest? Or will the reign of The Exalted One roll on as we head towards our ANNIVERSARY DYNAMITE and FULL GEAR 2020?

CHAMPIONS UNITE…

AEW Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida & NWA World Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa Vs. Women’s Tag Team Cup Champions Diamante & Ivelisse

At ALL OUT 2020, Thunder Rosa challenged Hikaru Shida for the AEW Women’s World Title and gave the defending champ the hardest fight of her now 120+ day title reign. The two competitors certainly earned the respect of one another through that combat, and that was certainly evident this past Wednesday night when Shida sat ringside to watch Rosa defend her NWA World Women’s Title against Ivelisse. For nearly ten minutes, Rosa and Ivelisse gave each other a tremendous fight, but the defending champion ultimately retained her title over the challenger.

The victory was extremely short-lived though as Diamante slid into the ring and assaulted Rosa in retaliation. This prompted Shida to hop into the ring in defense of Rosa, tossing Diamante and Ivelisse out of the ring, and respectfully handing Rosa her NWA Championship belt. The groundwork had been laid, and AEW immediately signed this tremendous tag team contest that unites the two champions against the winners of the Women’s Tag Team Cup Tournament!

The NWA and AEW join forces on Wednesday night! Will this historic pairing be triumphant on TNT, or will the Deadly Draw duo get their hands raised in victory?

THE BEST MAN COMPETES!

THE BEST MAN Miro & Kip Sabian (W/ Penelope Ford) vs. Joey Janela & Sonny Kiss

Miro surprised the world when he appeared on DYNAMITE several weeks ago to fill the role of THE BEST MAN for the upcoming nuptials of Penelope Ford and Kip Sabian. In addition to some scathing words directed to the rest of the wrestling word, Miro has also made some promises regarding the most epic bachelor party imaginable before the big day comes.

Before that comes, as Tony Khan teased on Twitter in the wee hours just prior to LATE NIGHT DYNAMITE kicking off, Miro would may make his in-ring debut LIVE tonight on DYNAMITE! Well we just found out that he will step into the ring with the future groom, Kip Sabian, as his partner, and the bride-to-be no doubt accompanying them into action. Their opponents for the evening, two competitors very familiar to Kip, none other than Joey Janela and Sonny Kiss! Joey and Kip have had their share of wars, including a violent Falls Count Anywhere match many months ago. That rivalry gets a fresh flame lit under it tonight when the Bridal Party goes to battle against Janela & “The Concrete Rose” in tag team action!!!

The SECOND episode of DYNAMITE this week comes to you LIVE at 8pm EST/7pm CST on TNT, and features another line-up of tremendous action with champions in action, TWO titles now on the line, Chris Jericho in the house, and the road to the DYNAMITE ANNIVERSARY getting quite rocky!
