TRUE FRIENDS…
Jay Lethal (w/ Satnam Singh & Sonjay Dutt)
vs.
“The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels
Just like Samoa Joe and Jay Lethal, there is a rich history between Lethal and “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels. Across multiple companies, over the entirety of Lethal’s career, these two men have walked such similar paths, When Lethal’s wrestling journey started, Daniels was already established as one of the premier talents on the independent wrestling landscape, and while “The Fallen Angel” was working worldwide to build upon that legacy, Lethal was working to establish one of his own. The two paths collided from time to time, some forty-plus matches in which they were both involved over the last 20 years, and two competitors even battled over a championship or two during their bouts. In the landscape of Ring of Honor, Daniels defeated Jay on two occasions with the ROH World Title at stake, once in Australia, and the other as part of a three way that included Cody Rhodes and took place in the historic Hammerstein Ballroom.
And while both stand as Triple Crown Champions in ROH’s lexicon, and each is only one title away from holding every championship in ROH’s history (For Jay, the Six Man Titles and for Daniels the Pure), they are also bound by their ties to ROH World TV Champion Samoa Joe. Daniels and Joe go back over twenty years to the UPW promotion in California, and have been inexorably bound ever since then. It was Daniels who brought Joe to ROH in the first place at their first tentpole event Glory by Honor 2002, and across promotions, across decades, across oceans, Daniels and Joe have been both friend and foe.
As for Lethal, long story short, the protege-mentor relationship of Jay and Joe long ago died, and there is nothing left but bitter resentment from the protege side of the dynamic. Seventeen years of rot in Jay Lethal’s gut, eating him up inside, and we all witnessed it explode when Samoa Joe arrived in All Elite Wrestling. Now, because “The Fallen Angel” had the audacity to stand up for his friend and call out Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, and Satnam Singh for their cowardice, this Friday night Lethal and Daniels will collide for their first one-on-one bout in five years! It also marks Christopher Daniels’ debut on Rampage so this is indeed a special night in the Gas South Arena.
With Death Before Dishonor 2022 less than 24 hours away, will Lethal roll into Massachusetts on a hot streak or can “The Fallen Angel” cool off “The Franchise of ROH” before he has to meet his maker?
ONE-ON-ONE…
“Inhuman” Dante Martin
vs.
Lee Moriarty
The August 17, 2021 edition of AEW Dark, that was the first night Dante Martin and Lee Moriarty collided in All Elite Wrestling. As a matter of fact, it was the very first match #Taigastyle had in AEW, right in front of his hometown Pittsburgh audience, and it earned him immediate recognition by those within AEW. In the year since, Lee has battled CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, Shawn Spears, FTR, to name a few, and even challenged Jonathan Gresham, albeit unsuccessfully, for the ROH World Title. In the midst of all that, as both partner and foe, Moriarty has stood in the ring with Dante Martin on several nights since that first outing.
Both young and supremely talented, Matt Sydal has served as mentor to Martin and Moriarty during their AEW tenures, and both have experienced successes as well as frustrations. That is the nature of pro wrestling, that is the nature of life, wins and losses, triumph and tragedy; unfortunately for Lee, his biggest opportunity was also turned into a big tragedy because he was the victim of Jonathan Gresham aligning with Tully Blanchard Enterprises. That betrayal, that is what led Matt Sydal to put together this match between his two proteges, secure in the knowledge that this content will be above board, and demonstrate, as Dante said, “peace, love, and pro wrestling”.
Will we see a repeat of Dark one year ago, or will Moriarty rebound from his ROH World Title heartbreak?
TAG TEAM ACTION…
Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D & Jamie Hayter in action!
Dr. Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter love to poke the bear when it comes to Thunder Rosa, albeit with some cognitive dissonance on the part of the former AEW Women’s World Champion’s given that Rosa beat her to claim the title, beat her prior to that in the historic Lights Out Match, and is coming into Friday night’s tag team battle having lost her last two matches in AEW. It should also be noted that, as a tag team, Baker and Hayter are 0-4 on the year, so any barking up that tree from Baker is clearly to keep herself in the champion’s limelight, and to try and stay in the title picture as best she is able.
Given that this is pro wrestling and AEW, running your mouth can only get one so far, eventually they have to back it up in the ring, and this Friday night Team Britt will have that opportunity in tag team competition! If The Good Doctor, or Jamie Hayter for that matter, want to be in championship discussions, they need to get back on the winning track, and they can start that on Rampage: Fyter Fest come Friday night!
REUNITED AND IT FEELS…
“Hangman” Adam Page & John Silver vs. The Blade & The Butcher
It’s been a bit since we’ve seen “Hangman” Adam Page and John Silver united for tag team action, but this Friday night, they will reunite, and it will indeed feel so good!
As can be seen in the clip above, The Dark Order members tried to do something nice for The Butcher and The Blade, but it all went sour pretty quickly. The ensuing assault left Alex Reynolds injured, and the same would’ve happened to The Meat Man if not for the timely arrival of their friend Adam Page. Now, this Friday night, Hangman makes a return to Rampage to tag up with Silver to battle two of AEW’s most vicious competitors. It’s been over two years, and a sea of change for all, since the last time Hangman stepped into the ring with Butcher and Blade, but one thing that hasn’t changed is how they like to throw down!
We’re going to have ourselves a Friday night fight in GA when John Silver and Adam Page team-up on Rampage!
