Eck’s Files: Bandido Says He’s Ready For RUSH; Two Matches Made For Best In The World Hour One; Special Edition Of Trending With Taven On Tap

Bandido and RUSH were both undefeated when they faced each other for the first time at the 17th Anniversary show two years ago. RUSH was the better man that night, but Bandido is confident their second meeting will have a different outcome.

When they square off this time, at the Best in the World pay-per-view on July 11 in Baltimore, the stakes will be much higher, as RUSH’s ROH World Championship will be on the line.

“This time I am 1,000 percent ready,” Bandido told me on the latest episode of the ROHStrong Podcast. “I’m not going to be surprised by anything and I’m going to make the most of my opportunity.”

Other topics Bandido talked about on the podcast, which drops this Monday morning on ROHWrestling.com and most podcast platforms, include: winning Survival of the Fittest to earn his title shot; why he signed (and re-signed) with ROH when he had offers from WWE and other promotions; teaming with Rey Mysterio in the main event of All In; the criticism he received from his trainer Ultimo Guerrero that motivated him to excel; wrestling at Madison Square Garden, and much more.

Special thanks to ROH Spanish commentator Rich Lobezno for joining me on the podcast and translating when needed.

Two matches have been announced for Best in the World Hour One, which will air for free on multiple platforms — including HonorClub, YouTube and pay-per-view channels carrying Best in the World — at 7 p.m. Eastern before the pay-per-view portion begins.

PCO and Danhausen will take on The Bouncers (Beer City Bruiser and Brawler Milonas) in one contest, and former MexiSquad teammates Demonic Flamita and Rey Horus will meet in the other.

Matt Taven doesn’t have a match at Best in the World, but he will be on the show with a special edition of his Trending With Taven interview show.

This should be very interesting considering Taven’s recent state of mind, as he has let his former friend Vincent get into his head.

A huge triple-threat tag match featuring the three warring factions in ROH will headline Ring of Honor Wrestling the weekend of July 10.

It’ll be The Foundation’s Jay Lethal and Pure Champion Jonathan Gresham versus Violence Unlimited’s Brody King and ROH World Television Champion Tony Deppen versus La Faccion Ingobernable’s Dragon Lee and Kenny King.

This weekend’s episode of Ring of Honor Wrestling is must-see TV for sure.

I have no doubt that the Fight on the Farm between Jay and Mark Briscoe is going to be a spectacle that will be both violent and entertaining.

Even Jim Cornette, who as we all know isn’t a fan of most of the current wrestling scene, is eagerly looking forward to the battle of the Briscoes.

As if the Briscoes’ clash wasn’t enough, the episode also includes Gresham defending the Pure Title against Fred Yehi in what figures to be a technical wrestling classic.

I was looking forward to seeing Vita VonStarr compete in the ROH Women’s World Title Tournament, but she has no one to blame but herself for having her ticket to gold revoked by ROH Board of Directors member Maria Kanellis-Bennett.

Kanellis-Bennett made herself perfectly clear when she warned VonStarr that she would be out of the tournament if she interfered in any of the men’s matches.

VonStarr defied Kanellis-Bennett the first chance she got — on Righteous leader Vincent’s orders — by attacking Taven during his match against Dutch on last weekend’s episode of Ring of Honor Wrestling.

VonStarr had a strong showing in defeat against former Women of Honor World Champion Sumie Sakai in May and I thought she could have made some noise in the tournament.

Thanks to her willingness to do whatever Vincent asks of her, now we’ll never know.

Alex Gracia made good on her second chance to earn a ticket to gold, as she defeated Gia Scott on Women’s Division Wednesday this week. Don’t be surprised if Gracia makes a deep run in the tournament.

As for Scott, she gave Gracia more than a few anxious moments and has a bright future.

Scott will be in action again on next week’s Women’s Division Wednesday on YouTube when she teams with Allie Recks to take on Sakai and Willow.

PJ Black and Ryan Mooney, who both competed in the Pure Gauntlet Match won by Mike Bennett last week, will face each other in a Pure Rules Match on ROH Week By Week, which premieres this Tuesday at 1 p.m. Eastern on YouTube.

Reminder: Tickets for the Glory By Honor shows on Aug. 20-21 at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia go on sale to the general public Monday at 10 a.m. Eastern. Tickets are already on sale for HonorClub members.
