Eck’s Files: What’s Going On With The ‘Pure’ Righteous? Ken Dixon Guests On ROHStrong Podcast

October 29, 2021

By Kevin Eck

The Foundation has been saying for months that they want Pure wrestlers from all over to join them in their mission to promote the Pure style. I’m guessing the last people they expected to stand with them is The Righteous.

Then again, I’m not entirely sure if that’s what The Righteous is doing. As is typical of Righteous leader Vincent, his words are cryptic and his actions ambiguous.

During the match between The Foundation’s Jay Lethal and Violence Unlimited’s Homicide on this past weekend’s episode of Ring of Honor Wrestling, The Righteous’ Dutch prevented Tony Deppen from interfering on Homicide’s behalf, which allowed Lethal to pick up the victory.

Afterward, Vincent, Dutch, Vita Von Starr and Bateman stood on the stage and applauded Lethal, who understandably was confused by The Righteous’ actions.

Before the match, Vincent was shown backstage staring into a mirror and asking each member of The Righteous, “Do you think he’s gonna love it?”

Was Lethal the “he” Vincent was referring to?

The Righteous has been clad in all white since showing up at the end of Death Before Dishonor last month, which was the first time we had seen them since Vincent’s career-defining win over Matt Taven in the Last Stand cage match at Glory By Honor in August.

Vincent has said the white attire is symbolic of him being cleansed and purified.

“I’ve left the stream of blood beneath me of the past to be cleansed,” Vincent said. “Every blood drop that I’ve shed has purified my soul, man. Pain is necessary for purification. Dig what I’m sayin?”

Yeah, I dig it. I don’t understand it, but I can dig it.

Ken Dixon, ROH Dojo dropout and beer-drinking buddy of The Bouncers, was my guest on the latest episode of The ROHStrong Podcast, which drops this Monday morning on ROHWrestling.com and most podcast platforms.

Dixon talked about why he wasn’t a good fit for the Dojo system; not breaking into pro wrestling until his late 20s; how his experiences working for the U.S. Department of Defense shaped him; getting his teeth knocked out in a match, and much more.

Don’t forget to tune into the special Halloween episode of Ring of Honor Wrestling, which airs exclusively on YouTube on Halloween night at 7 p.m. You can interact with ROH stars and fans on Twitter during the show using #WatchROH.

The show is headlined by an ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Title Match pitting champions Shane Taylor Promotions (Taylor and Soldiers of Savagery’s Moses and Kaun) against Danhausen, PCO and Sledge.

There also will be a Wildcard Trick or Treat Halloween Tag Team Four-Corner Survival with all of the teams drawn at random out of a jack-o’-lantern, and ROH Women’s World Champion Rok-C will team with Quinn McKay to take on Miranda Alize and Max The Impaler.

Airing in ROH TV’s regularly scheduled time slot is an encore presentation of an episode spotlighting Lethal, featuring “The Franchise of ROH” in classic matches against Jay Briscoe and AJ Styles.

In closing, I want to acknowledge the big news from earlier this week about ROH’s plan to take the first quarter of 2022 to reimagine the company and return to live events in April for Supercard of Honor with a new, fan-focused product.

If ROH has been anything over its 20-year existence it’s resilient. I’m looking forward to the next chapter in the story of ROH.

As I’ve said numerous times, I’ve worked for “bigger” wrestling companies, but I’ve never worked for one better than ROH. This is the best assemblage of talent I’ve had the privilege of getting to know and work with.
