This weekend’s special episode of Ring of Honor Wrestling features three classic matches from the era when ROH Hall of Famer Cary Silkin was the owner of the company:
AJ Styles vs. CM Punk in ROH Pure Title Tournament Final
(Second Anniversary Show, Feb. 14, 2004)
Two men who would go on to become multi-time world champions and international stars squared off in the finals of an eight-man tournament to crown the inaugural ROH Pure Champion.
Styles defeated Jimmy Rave and Matt Stryker to advance to the finals, while Punk beat John Walters and Doug Williams.
ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson vs. Delirious
(Ring of Homicide, May 13, 2006)
Danielson was in the middle of his 462-day reign as world champion when he put his title on the line against the unorthodox and unpredictable Delirious.
The challenger entered the match on a roll, coming off a win over Chris Sabin and prevailing in a three-way bout over Nigel McGuinness and Kikutaro.
ROH World Champion Austin Aries vs. Tyler Black
(8th Anniversary Show, Feb. 13, 2010)
When this match took place, Aries was an established veteran and the only man to have regained the ROH World Championship. Black was a 23-year-old rising star.
Two months prior, Black wrestled Aries to a 60-minute draw at Final Battle, proving that he can go hold-for-hold with the best. At 8th Anniversary, Black became the best.
