Here’s a preview of this weekend’s episode of “Ring of Honor Wrestling:”
The Foundation (Jay Lethal, Jonathan Gresham, Tracy Williams & Rhett Titus) vs. La Facción Ingobernable (RUSH, Dragon Kee, Kenny King & Bestia del Ring w/Amy Rose)
This showdown between the top two factions in ROH is about more than bragging rights or which side has momentum heading into the 19th Anniversary pay-per-view on March 26.
It’s a key battle in a war for the very soul of ROH.
The Foundation deeply believes in competing with honor and adhering to rules. Conversely, La Faccion Ingobernable prides itself on being ungovernable, winning at any cost and humiliating its opponents.
“LFI, you have shown that you have no respect for the code that we follow when we get in that ring,” Williams said. “And what that means to The Foundation is that you stand in the way of us restoring honor to Ring of Honor.”
Williams said that “power is gold, power is in championships.” At the moment, that power lies with LFI.
LFI possesses the ROH World Title (held by RUSH), World Television Title (held by Lee) and World Tag Team Title (held by Lee and King, who defeated Lethal and Gresham for the belts). The Foundation has the Pure Title (held by Gresham).
There could be a shift in the balance of power at 19th Anniversary, where there will be three matches between Foundation and LFI members: RUSH versus Lethal; Lee versus Williams; and Lee and King versus Williams and Titus.
With this eight-man tag match taking place just days before those individual battles, tensions between the two factions are at an all-time high.
“We already took your titles, we took your hearts,” King said. “Now it’s time to wipe you out.”
Eli Isom vs. Rey Horus
It’s been over a year since Isom has competed in an ROH ring, and he’s chomping at the bit to re-establish himself as a rising star.
“I’m more ready than I’ve ever been,” Isom said. “I’m more focused, I’m more determined, because I know every single match that I have going forward could be my last. I’m here to be great. I’m here to win Ring of Honor gold. I’m here to cement my legacy as one of the best Ring of Honor wrestlers who ever graced the ring.
“So, Rey Horus, my climb to the top of the ladder, it starts with you.”
Defeating Horus won’t be an easy task. Just ask former ROH World Champion Dalton Castle, who was pinned by the luchador at Final Battle in December. Or ROH World Television Champion Dragon Lee, who barely escaped with his title in a defense against Horus in January.
“Eli, I know you’ve got heart. I’ve seen you wrestle, and people are saying that you’re the future of Ring of Honor,” Horus said. “But don’t forget we’re living in the now, and I’m the present.”
Both Isom and Horus have set their sights on the ROH World Television Title, and the result of this match will move one of them a step closer to having an opportunity to achieve their goal.
