“Ring of Honor Wrestling” #486
Airdate: Weekend of Jan. 9, 2021
Host Quinn McKay welcomed viewers to the show, which will feature three of the best matches from 2020.
No. 1 Contender’s Battle Royal
(Free Enterprise, Feb. 9)
Surprise competitors included Gangrel, Blue Meanie, Crowbar and Danhausen. During the entrances, Kenny King seemed confused when fellow La Faccion Ingobernable member Dragon Lee came out, as he thought Lee was still in Japan. Before the bell sounded, Gangrel spit his red liquid into King’s face. In a scene reminiscent of the Honor Rumble at G1 Supercard last April when Great Muta sprayed his mist into King’s face, King seemed to be blinded.
Maria Manic was in the match, and she eliminated Brian Johnson, Rhett Titus and both Bouncers. After an exchange of chops between Manic and Silas Young, Young tried to toss her over the top rope, but she held on. Suddenly, Bully Ray ran down to ringside and pulled Manic to the floor. Bully then whacked her in the back with a chair and proceeded to powerbomb her through the announce table.
The final three were Dragon Lee, Young and Young’s tag partner Josh Woods. After Woods inadvertently eliminated Young, Lee eliminated Woods. At that point, King ran into the ring and tossed Lee over the top rope. As King celebrated his win (which was reminiscent of how he won the Honor Rumble), he failed to see that Lee held onto the ropes and pulled himself back in the ring. Lee unmasked, revealing that it was Flip Gordon. King turned around and charged at Gordon, but Gordon ducked and King went flying over the top rope onto the floor.
The order of elimination was: Gangrel, LSG, Crowbar and Eli Isom simultaneously, Dak Draper, Blue Meanie, PJ Black, Brian Johnson, Rhett Titus, The Bouncers simultaneously, Maria Manic, Delirious, Danhausen, Cheeseburger, Tracy Williams, Silas Young, Josh Woods, Kenny King.
ROH World Title Three-way Match: Champion PCO vs. RUSH vs. Mark Haskins
(Gateway To Honor, Feb. 29)
PCO hit a moonsault on Haskins, but RUSH pulled the referee out of the ring before he could count the pin. While the referee was preoccupied with RUSH, NWA World Champion Nick Aldis ran into the ring and hit PCO in the head with his title belt. The opportunistic RUSH landed a big punch to PCO and then followed with Bull’s Horns for the shocking win.
After the match, La Faccion Ingobernable members Dragon Lee, Kenny King and Amy Rose entered the ring to celebrate with RUSH. Haskins showed no fear, as he got right in RUSH’s face, but he was jumped by RUSH, Lee and King and tossed out of the ring.
Pure Title Tournament Final: Jonathan Gresham vs. Tracy Williams
(“Ring of Honor Wrestling,” Oct. 31)
Williams had his banged-up left shoulder wrapped. Gresham applied a standing armlock, and Williams used his first of three allotted rope breaks. Williams applied a hold on Gresham’s neck, and Gresham used his first rope break. Gresham speared Williams, but Williams answered with a series of chops.
Gresham connected on an Enziguri to Williams’ left shoulder and hit a German suplex into a bridge for a two count. Williams rocked Gresham with a clothesline for a two count. Williams landed a brainbuster for a near fall and then transitioned into a crossface. Gresham appeared on the verge of tapping, but he managed to get to the ropes for his second rope break.
Gresham hit another German suplex into a bridge for a near fall. Williams landed two running forearms to the face followed by one to the back of the head for a near fall. Williams planted Gresham with a piledriver, but Gresham used his final rope break. Gresham got back to his feet and caught Williams in the Octopus Stretch. Maintaining the hold, Gresham dropped to the mat and leaned back to increase the pressure on Williams’ left shoulder. Williams tapped out at 14:37.
After the match. Jay Lethal, Gresham’s best friend and ROH World Tag Team Championship partner, came into the ring to celebrate with Gresham and shake the hand of Williams, who had defeated him in the Block A final.
