What should have been the biggest moment of Allie Recks’ career ended up being the most heartbreaking.
Recks was offered a ticket to gold to the ROH Women’s World Title Tournament by ROH Board of Directors member Maria Kanellis-Bennett on the latest episode of Women’s Division Wednesday on YouTube, but Recks said she was unable to accept it.
Recks revealed that she recently underwent knee surgery and will be out of action for at least eight months.
She said the injury occurred during her match against Max The Impaler two weeks ago. Recks said she tried to push through it but her knee ultimately gave out.
“I respectfully decline. I won’t be able to make it,” Recks, fighting back tears, told Kanellis-Bennett.
Kanellis-Bennett assured Recks that her time will come.
“Don’t decline. Say ‘not right now,’ because there will be more opportunities,’” Kanellis-Bennett said. “I’m really sorry that this happened. … It will all come back around. I promise you that.”.
Meanwhile, veteran Sumie Sakai was awarded her much-deserved ticket to gold. The former Women of Honor World Champion has to be considered one of the favorites to win the tournament.
It was announced that another ticket to gold will be issued tonight at 7 p.m. Eastern on ROH’s social media channels, and the tournament bracket will be revealed at Best in the World on July 11 in Baltimore.
In a pre-taped match on Women’s Division Wednesday, Recks and Gia Scott defeated Willow and Sakai when Recks pinned Willow after a spear.
