Tag Team Of The Year: The Briscoes

January 11, 2022

It was a strange year for Jay and Mark Briscoe, who spent a significant portion of 2021 at odds with one another.

As the year came to a close, however, the Briscoes found themselves in a familiar position. For the 12th time, Dem Boys were ROH World Tag Team Champions.

The Briscoes defeated The OGK (Matt Taven and Mike Bennett) for the title in an instant classic at Final Battle: End of an Era on Dec. 11.

It was a long climb back to the top for the Briscoes, who had not held the tag title since losing the belts at Final Battle 2019.

When Jay and Mark weren’t getting along last year, Papa Briscoe told them the only way to settle the dispute and resume being “the baddest tag team on the planet” was to fight each other on the family farm in Sandy Fork, Del.

The patriarch’s pronouncement proved prescient. After Jay and Mark beat the hell out of each other in the Fight on the Farm in July, they buried the hatchet and went on a quest to regain the ROH World Tag Team Title.

At Papa Briscoe’s insistence, they started at the bottom and worked their way up the rankings. The Briscoes went 5-1, with their lone loss coming to The OGK at Death Before Dishonor in September. They avenged that defeat two months later.

In the meantime, the Briscoes shocked the wrestling world by invading Game Changer Wrestling and winning the GCW Tag Team Title in October. They currently hold the ROH World and GCW tag team titles.
