For more than 390 days, Pete Dunne has stood atop the U.K. division, proudly defending the title against anyone who’s crossed his path. Since winning the championship in May 2017, The BruiserWeight has defeated fellow U.K. competitors like Wolfgang and former titleholder Tyler Bate. He’s turned back the challenges of Americans Johnny Gargano and Roderick Strong and Canada’s Kyle O’Reilly. Yet, can Dunne’s incredible run with the U.K. crown make it past the NXT U.K. Championship at London’s Royal Albert Hall?
That question will be answered when the winner of the 2018 WWE U.K. Championship Tournament — whomever that may be — takes on Dunne at the NXT U.K. Championship special, streaming on WWE Network on Tuesday, June 26.
Dunne’s opponent won’t be known until the tournament concludes one night before the scheduled title defense, meaning The BruiserWeight must prepare for a wide swathe of possibilities. Regardless of which U.K. competitor outlasts the competition in the 16-man tournament, don’t expect Dunne to shy away from a fight. That’s not how the contusion-creating, joint-manipulating Dunne handles his business. Still, with the tournament competitors yearning to make a splash on the biggest stage of their careers, there’s no telling what lengths the winner will go to rip the U.K. Title from The BruiserWeight’s grip.
What is clear is that this title showdown is not to be missed. Watch the historic title defense when it streams on the award-winning WWE Network, Tuesday, June 26, at 3 p.m. ET/8 p.m. BST.
A limited number of tickets for the NXT U.K. Championship, which tapes on Tuesday, June 19, are still available at livenation.co.uk and bookingsdirect.com.
