The summer music season at the Hollywood Bowl continues with a culturally rich and musically daring performance: Sarabande Africaine on August 28, 2025. This evening marks a landmark collaboration between world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma and Grammy-winning vocalist Angélique Kidjo, joined by a collective of international talents for a genre-defying experience.
Sarabande Africaine was born out of a symbolic 2018 performance under the Arc de Triomphe, honoring the end of World War I. That performance inspired Ma and Kidjo to explore the African musical diaspora and its impact on Western classical traditions. The result is a powerful concert that reframes familiar narratives and centers the contributions of African culture to global music.
Joining the duo onstage are French Caribbean keyboardist Thierry Vaton, percussionist David Donatien, and special guest Sinkane, a Sudanese-American artist whose music blends jazz, funk, and East African influences.
With the Hollywood Bowl’s expansive outdoor stage as their backdrop, this performance will highlight the connective power of music through stories, rhythm, and transcendent performance.
