“Wondrous Journeys” Nighttime Spectacular Returns to Disneyland for the 70th Anniversary Celebration

May 26, 2025

As part of the Disneyland Resort 70th Anniversary Celebration, the highly acclaimed “Wondrous Journeys” nighttime spectacular will once again illuminate Disneyland Park beginning May 16, 2025, for a limited-time run.

This emotional, visually stunning show is a love letter to Walt Disney Animation Studios, celebrating more than six decades of iconic storytelling. With dazzling projection effects, soaring music, fireworks on select nights, and even a high-flying appearance by Baymax, “Wondrous Journeys” is a must-see for fans of Disney’s timeless animated films.

A Journey Through Disney Animation History

“Wondrous Journeys” takes guests on a visual and musical adventure through 18 different Disney animated features, from golden age classics like Peter Pan and Bambi to modern favorites like Wish, Big Hero 6, and Encanto.

The show’s structure mirrors the artistic journey of an animator — from pencil sketch beginnings to full-color realizations of characters like Mirabel, Ariel, Hercules, and Tiana. The experience is brought to life through state-of-the-art projections, immersive lighting, and a powerful soundtrack.

Music That Moves the Heart

The emotional core of “Wondrous Journeys” lies in its rich musical arrangement:

  • 18 Disney songs are woven together with a brand-new original anthem, “It’s Wondrous”, written by Duddy Brown and GRAMMY® Award-winner Alex Geringas.
  • The show’s score is performed by an 80-piece orchestra, with 16 lead vocalists and a 33-person choir delivering stirring vocals that range from heartfelt to heroic.

Spectacular Effects and Memorable Moments

Highlights of the show include:

  • Baymax soaring over the castle to the beat of Big Hero 6’s “Immortals,” with rocket boosters lighting up the night sky.
  • Butterflies as a symbolic thread, fluttering through scenes as a tribute to the wonder and transformation central to Disney stories, seen in films like Alice in Wonderland, Winnie the Pooh, Tarzan, and Encanto.
  • Custom projection experiences tailored to four key viewing areas: Main Street, U.S.A., Sleeping Beauty Castle, Rivers of America, and “it’s a small world”.
  • MagicBand+ enhancements that light up and pulse along with the show for an added layer of interactivity.
