Unrivaled’s growing momentum
15,000-plus viewers gathered together to watch the draft live on Bleacher Report’s YouTube. Every fan was buzzing in the chat about which club their favorite players were going to.
Despite a few hiccups that revealed some players too early, the entire affair was a breath of fresh air and right in line with how Unrivaled has been handling their marketing and fan engagement efforts.
Among the most thrilling new developments this year, in addition to the Breeze and Hive expansion teams, are WNBA Rookie of the Year Paige Bueckers, fan favorites Saniya Rivers and Sonia Citron.

What changed from 2025 to 2026?
The four clubs that made season one’s playoffs were able to protect two players from the previous roster, including Lunar Owls, Rose, Laces, and Vinyl. Meanwhile, the clubs that didn’t make the playoffs in 2025 (Phantom and Mist) got to protect one player and a chance to refresh their roster from the available options.
Being new clubs, Breeze and Hive obviously didn’t have any previous players to protect, but got to pick first and second in the draft. Breeze won the coin toss and got to select first, which explains how they got Bueckers from “Pod A.” Each player was broken up into separate pods from A-F (not a letter grade) for clubs to choose from.
Balancing strength, skill, and star power
The live show was hosted by former WNBA All-Star Renee Montgomery, along with returning Phantom player Natasha Cloud and newly added Lunar Owls player Aaliyah Edwards.
Cloud was hilarious and appropriately shady towards the WNBA, while also complimenting every player selected for every team. She was particularly excited about her own Phantom line-up, especially the added players. “I like to talk shit to Kelsey Plum, too,” Cloud said about her new teammate.
Cloud also mentioned that she had a fire under her ass from the previous season, because the Phantom were at the bottom of the rankings consistently. She was insistent they would not be in that same place again and she might be right. “We have a solid balance of outside threats and perimeter shooting,” she said, while also complimenting Dana Evans and “unicorn” Satou Sabally.
Edwards was visibly thrilled to be on a team with legendary vets like Napheesa Collier and Skylar Diggins. Said said they have deep shooters on her Lunar Owls and is looking forward to seeing how Diggins can lead the team.

The club roster reveal wasn’t the only thing cooking. The developmental pool of relief players was also established with Haley Van Lith, Haley Jones, and more. Edwards said Unrivaled listen to player feedback about relief players last year not being readily available with injuries toppling teams like the Laces.
Final thoughts on the new roster
Breeze’s line-up of highly-followed players is sure to be the fan favorite club of the season. They also have insane wingspans on the team with Malonga and Brink. Hive Club has plenty of weapons. The Phantom doesn’t look like they will be steamrolled this year, with a more even, stacked set of players.

Laces will probably continue to be excellent, provided they can keep all their shooters healthy. Vinyl looks scary good, the Mist might end up surprising everyone, and all eyes will be on whether the reigning champions, Rose, can take the crown a second time. (Returning Rose Chelsea Gray already has multiple championships under her belt this year, why not keep adding to it?)
Unrivaled’s opening day is Jan. 5, 2026, available on HBO Max, TNT, and truTV.
