***CONTAINS SPOILERS*** Tonight’s episode of AEW DYNAMITE was broadcast live from Landers Center in Southaven, MS. Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, and Jim Ross were the broadcast team for tonight’s event. Memphis pro-wrestling broadcasting legend Dave Brown joined the trio at the table to call the first match! “Hangman” Adam Page & Kenny Omega vs. Private Party (Marq Quen & Isiah Kassidy) was the opening contest tonight! “Their young age belies their calm in-ring demeanor,” said Excalibur of the team of Private Party. “Hangman” Adam Page and Marq Quen started off for their respective teams, as the hot Memphis crowd chanted “Cowboy $hit” at the “Hangman.” Private Party were quick to utilize their tandem offense on Page. After a lateral press, Marq Quen covered Page for a one-count. Page powered back with a shoulder tackle and a suplex on Private Party, and tagged in Kenny Omega. Page and Omega seemed to be on the same frequency tonight, with quick tags to each other, in and out, and coordinating their chops on Kassidy and Quen. Kassidy hit a flat liner on the “Best Bout Machine” Omega from the outside of the ring to the inside, and was able to get the tag to Marq Quen. Marq Quen went vertical on both Omega and Page, and then connected with a 450 splash on “Hangman” Page for a near fall. “Hangman” caught Marq Quen, who had launched himself off the top rope, and planted him with a fall away slam. Page power bombed Kassidy. Omega, who had been tagged in, hit a V-trigger knee on Kassidy! With their speed and agility, Private Party blasted one of their finishers, “Silly String,” on Omega, but he kicked out! Private Party hit a double dropkick on Page, who fell into Omega (who had been perched on the top rope). Private Party hit Gin & Juice on Omega, but it wasn’t enough to stop the “Best Bout Machine.” After a great start, the Elite team of Page and Omega were getting their wires and signals crossed. Finally, after they used a buckshot lariat V-trigger combo, Kenny Omega was able to gain the victory for his team. The TV crew brought us a look at what was happening in the locker room. “The Bastard” PAC had Michael Nakazawa in the Brutalizer submission hold. PAC demanded his rubber match with Kenny Omega, “…or else things like this will continue to happen!” Kenny Omega ran to the back to defend his friend Michael Nakazawa from PAC. “Hangman” Adam Page hardly seemed phased, instead grabbing a beer from a fan at ringside. Brandi Rhodes joined the commentary team for the next bout, which was for the AEW Women’s World Championship Match. RIHO (c.) defended against Kris Statlander. Hikaru Shida and Dr. Britt Baker were shown watching at ringside. RIHO delivered strikes to Statlander, and then double-boots and a hurracarana. Statlander caught RIHO with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Statlander missed a moonsault, as RIHO wisely slid out of the way. RIHO climbed to the top rope and Statlander met her there. Statlander gave her a stalling vertical suplex, her power on full display in Memphis. TCB! “The Nightmare Collective” (Awesome Kong and the newly recruited Mel) casually walked to the ringside. Statlander, like an intergalactic spacecraft, crashed onto Awesome Kong with a tope suicida. Brandi Rhodes left the broadcast table and joined her “Nightmare Collective.” Statlander left the ring and approached Brandi. Before Statlander could hit Brandi, Luther—the infamous Japanese deathmatch pro wrestler (and the mysterious man seen in previous “Nightmare Collective” videos)—held back her arm. RIHO jumped onto Luther from the top turnbuckle, and the match continued! RIHO captured Statlander’s leg, but Statlander rolled out. Statlander tried to finish RIHO with a giant gorilla slam, but RIHO took her down with a crucifix bomb! Statlander used her size advantage again; she lifted RIHO, but Awesome Kong pulled out Statlander’s legs right from under her. RIHO was able to capitalize for the roll up victory! Big Swole, Sunny Kiss, and Shida came to the aid of Statlander, who was being assaulted by “the Nightmare Collective.” Dr. Britt Baker didn’t bother to leave her ringside seat. A video package of highlights aired of “Superbad” Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford. Zach Myers of the band Shinedown was sitting in the crowd, taking in all the fiery AEW action. “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels vs. “The Spanish God” Sammy Guevara was up next. The two men locked up, but with over 26 years of in-ring experience, Daniels caught young Guevara with an arm drag. “Daniels is firing on all cylinders,” said Excalibur, as CD slammed Sammy. The tides shifted, and Sammy stomped on Daniel’s back. Sammy used the ropes to work over Daniels’ throat. Sammy used a hook kick to Daniels’ jaw, and then ascended to the top rope. Sammy went for a 450 splash, but Daniels moved. Daniels used an exploder on Sammy, then a dropkick and a clothesline for good measure! Daniels yelled “Angels Wings,” signaling his finisher, but Sammy avoided it! Sammy hit a running shooting star press, but Daniels kicked out at two! Daniels planted Sammy with the STO, but Pentagon, standing at the entrance ramp, interrupted, saying, “Hey amigo, show me if you can!” While Daniels was distracted by Penta, Sammy connected with a shot to the back of Daniels’ head for the victory. Excalibur said “The crisis of conscious continues to affect the ‘Fallen Angel’ Christopher Daniels.” The Dark Order walked down to the ring. Evil Uno had a microphone and admonished the crowd. “Boo all you want, but the AEW faithful are the same ones saying you lost a step, Chris Daniels. I can help you. SCU is a thing of the past. Be one with the Dark Order and wear the mask.” Evil Uno handed Daniels a Dark Order mask, but Daniels threw the mask back into Evil Uno’s face! The Dark Order swarmed Daniels, but Frankie Kazarian, Scorpio Sky, and the Young Bucks, Matt and Nick Jackson, ran down to rescue CD. The Lucha Bros. (Pentagon Jr. & Rey Fenix) vs. The Brotherhood—“The American Nightmare” Dustin Rhodes & Cody (accompanied by “The Enforcer” Arn Anderson). “Some consider them the best tag team in the world,” said Jim Ross of the Lucha Bros. Tony Schiavone added: “Great contrast in styles here.” This was the first time the teams were facing each other. Pentagon went for the package pile driver, but Cody, utilizing a wide base, escaped and tagged in brother Dustin. Fenix was tagged in by his brother. It escalated in no time, with Fenix diving onto Dustin, and Pentagon stomping onto him (after another quick tag). Pentagon kicked at Dustin’s leg, trying to knot up the thigh muscle. Dustin tried to fight his way out of the corner. Fenix went to the outside and grabbed a steel chair, but Arn Anderson saw it and knocked it out of his hands. Dustin hit a spine buster onto Fenix and tagged Cody. Cody’s offense was combustible, as he nailed a tope suicida, then a bicycle kick. He tried for CrossRhodes onto Rey Fenix, but Fenix connected with a cutter! Dustin was tagged in and used a Canadian destroyer on Fenix, and then the Final Reckoning onto Fenix for the pin fall. This match was utterly explosive! Tony Schiavone joined Cody, Dustin Rhodes, and Arn Anderson in the ring. “What do you say to all the challenges that MJF has put in front of you, Cody?” asked Schiavone. Arn Anderson pulled away the microphone from Schiavone. “Let me interrupt,” said the Enforcer. “Somebody died and made MJF God and I don’t know about it? One thing I know for sure. We’re going to talk about it this week and we’ll get back to you.” Alex Marvez was backstage with Memphis wrestling legend “Leapin’” Lanny Poffo. “Dynamite is the word,” said Poffo. For more on the Memphis wrestling legends, who were honored tonight, watch the next episode of AEW Dark, available for free on AEW’s YouTube channel. Back in the ring, MJF (with Wardlow) had a live microphone. “I’ll give you to the count of ten to come out and face me like a man, Cody.” “I don’t even think Cody is still here,” said Jim Ross on commentary. Diamond Dallas Page’s music hit, and DDP came out to confront MJF and Wardlow! “Let me explain something Dallie! Even when you were in your prime, you couldn’t hold my jock. And if you want one more match, I’m not going to fight you, but maybe these guys do.” The Butcher & the Blade (& the Bunny) joined MJF and Wardlow. MJF said to DDP: “You have two options. Option A is to kiss my ring and get out of my company. Or there’s option B—we can send you straight to hospice, and then I can take one of those nice ‘diamond daughters’ of yours and we can do one thing…” DDP heard enough! He dished out diamond cutters, first to the Butcher, and then the Blade got one! But MJF hit a low blow to DDP. MJF looked into the camera and said, “Cody, what’s about to happen to your mentor—that’s on you.” QT Marshall and Dustin ran out to stop the attack on DDP before he was permanently injured. Jurassic Express (Luchasaurus, Jungle Boy, & Marko Stunt) vs. The Best Friends (Chuck Taylor & Trent) & Orange Cassidy. Marko Stunt, the hometown hero, was psyching himself up to go at it with Trent. Trent knocked him down. The crowd was firmly behind Marko, who rolled up Trent with an inside cradle. Marko tagged Jungle Boy, and they hit the ripcord combo onto Trent. Chuck Taylor hit a falcon arrow on Jungle Boy, but a caffeinated Marko made the save. Luchasaurus entered into the mix and hit round kicks to the Best Friends. Lucha’s tail whip leveled Trent! Orange Cassidy unleashed his “freshly squeezed” offense, wiping out Jurassic Express. Marko Stunt was isolated, but Marko spiked Trent with a Canadian destroyer! Jungle Boy was quick to capitalize on the momentum and picked up the pin on Trent. The AEW World Champion, Le Champion, Chris Jericho, was out next with “The Spanish God” Sammy Guevara and “the Big Hurt” Jake Hager. The Inner Circle waited for Jon Moxley’s answer to their proposal to join their faction. A table had been set up in the ring with some chilled Bubbly. Moxley’s music hit, and Mox walked down the arena steps to deliver his decision. “The car is gassed up and ready to go, Jon,” said Le Champion. “All right, Mox, this is it. Will you be a part of the Inner Circle?” “I’ve had a lot to think about this week,” replied Moxley. “Chris, you offered me a car, money, and 49 percent ownership of Inner Circle, LLC. But I can’t be bought. I came to AEW to run roughshod on pro wrestling. And that is why my answer is…yes! There is no more dominant force in AEW than the Inner Circle, and I want to stand with them. I believe in my heart that Chris Jericho is the greatest of all time. There is only one thing left: pop open a little bit of the bubbly!” Moxley unzipped his leather jacket to reveal an Inner Circle t-shirt, then hugged Jericho, Sammy G. and Jake Hager. “I think you forgot something, Chris,” said Moxley. Chris Jericho handed over the keys to the nearly priceless sports car he promised Moxley. “Chris, my friend, I was just kidding,” Moxley said. “I would never join the Inner Circle. You have nothing that I want…” Moxley pointed at Jericho’s world championship title, and continued, “…except for that!” Moxley smashed the champagne bottles. Then Moxley delivered a Paradigm Shift to Sammy G., and then one to Jericho. Moxley stormed out of the ring, ripping off his “Inner Circle” t-shirt and clutching the keys to his new car! Be sure to join us next week on January 15th, for the BASH AT THE BEACH Edition of AEW DYNAMITE, live on TNT from the Watsco Center in Miami, FL.
On January 8th of 2019, the inaugural AEW press conference was held in the shadow of TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville to announce the formation of All Elite Wrestling. Fast forward one year and fans have experienced multiple pay-per-view events, several B/R Live events, the debut of “Dynamite” on TNT, and the crowning of World Champions for the Men’s, Women’s, and Tag Team divisions within AEW. It’s been a crazy year, especially since “Dynamite” began coming to your homes weekly on Wednesday nights, and the insanity will not let up anytime soon as AEW heads to the Memphis area for the very first time to debut at the Landers Center! One championship will be decided, two big tag team matches are signed, and several men have some major decisions to make about their futures! All this and more with the wrestlers of AEW this week on “Dynamite” live from Southhaven, MS! AEW WOMAN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH RIHO (c) vs. KRIS STATLANDER Kris Statlander finished up 2019 as the #1 ranked woman on the AEW roster, setting her up for a title challenge at the Homecoming edition of “Dynamite” last week in Jacksonville. Unfortunately a scheduling conflict that predated Statlander’s commitment to AEW arose, and the company permitted her to honor those commitments. In that match’s place, AEW Women’s World Champion Riho successfully defended her championship against the #2-#4 contenders in one match, but as seen in the video above, left that match in far worse shape than she started thanks to the uncontrollable Nyla Rose. Yet, in spite of that assault, Riho is honoring her commitment to defend the championship against Statlander this week on “Dynamite”! Statlander heads into this title confrontation with possibly more momentum than any other person on the AEW Women’s roster. Her opponent, on the other hand, is nowhere near 100% despite being given the okay to compete after Rose’s attack, but Riho’s will to compete and to win is undeniable. Adversity is nothing a stranger to the champion, and no matter how she feels walking to that ring, when the bell rings, Statlander will have a fight on her hands. CODY & DUSTIN RHODES VS. THE LUCHA BROS (PENTAGON JR. & REY FENIX) Family is something that has shaped AEW in many ways; be it Matt and Nick Jackson, Cody and Dustin Rhodes, or Pentagon and Rey Fenix, the bonds of blood have been a driving force in this company, particularly within the tag team ranks. Fans have seen The Young Bucks and The Lucha Bros go to war on many occasions since the inception of All Elite Wrestling, and they have seen the brotherhood of Cody & Dustin fight it out with the brothers Jackson as well. But for the very first time, when AEW comes to Memphis, the fans will bear witness to the Rhodes brothers stepping into the squared circle within The Lucha Bros! This is a tag team match that dreams are made of, and with the record books wiped clean for 2020, it could also shape the picture of future contenders for the World Tag Team Championships held by the SCU duo of Scorpio Sky and Frankie Kazarian. This is just one more example of All Elite Wrestling hosting the absolute best tag team wrestling anywhere on the planet each and every week! KENNY OMEGA & “HANGMAN” ADAM PAGE VS. PRIVATE PARTY (MARQ QUEN & ISIAH KASSIDY) Another example of that top shelf tag team competition is here in this battle of two duos at different points in there AEW journey. Private Party is without a doubt one of the most gifted teams on the roster, and they’ve demonstrated that on numerous occasions, particularly when the defeated The Young Bucks in the AEW World Tag Title Tournament and Proud-n-Powerful on “Dynamite”, not to mention nearly capturing those Tag Titles at the “Full Gear” PPV event. Kenny and Page, on the other hand, are certainly two of the most gifted individual wrestlers on the planet, but as a team they are in the nascent stages of their evolution. They’ve competed in a few matches together, had a moderate degree of success, but it’s a duo that appears to exist only due to the insistence of Kenny Omega rather than a true desire from Page to be in a team. This is a man who stepped away from his Elite brethren to go nomad, and that path has led him to dark places. Fans have witnessed his drunken antics both backstage, and most recently in Jacksonville, at the commentary booth. Page has been keeping it together for his matches, but once that final bell rings, all bets are off. Just ask his opponents this evening how the man has been acting, or watch the video above to see for yourself. What will it take to right the good ship Hangman? Clearly it was not seeing his Elite brothers close out last week’s “Dynamite” riding high, and thus far it has not been this pairing with Omega not matter how much Kenny may want it. Perhaps it will fall on Private Party to smack some sense into Page this Wednesday night live on TNT (and boost their own standings in the rankings as well). CHRISTOPHER DANIELS VS. SAMMY GUEVARA To say Sammy Guevara is riding high after that victory over Dustin Rhodes (as seen in the above video) would be an understatement. A man already prone to arrogance, Sammy might be on a whole new level after scoring a win over a true legend in Dustin, regardless of how it happened and the involvement of Jake Hager. But it doesn’t even take that kind of victory to bring out the bravado of Guevara, his own mouth and trash talking of SCU during an interview with Jen Decker is what got him into this match, and that was before he even defeated Dustin! Only now, heading into Wednesday night, Sammy has some momentum and extra swagger thanks to the victory while Christopher Daniels seems to be doubting himself after that “incident” with Pentagon Jr. Daniels, a man with championship pedigree and a resume that cements him as one of the greatest of this generation, needs to overcome his case of wrestling yips in order to put down Sammy. Now “The Spanish God” will no doubt have Inner Circle back-up, but so to may Daniels have his SCU brothers at his side to even the odds. It is a generational battle, but for Christopher Daniels, it is reasonable to say that the win here would mean so much more. JURASSIC EXPRESS (LUCHASAURUS, JUNGLE BOY, & MARKO STUNT) VS. THE BEST FRIENDS (TRENT & CHUCK TAYLOR) & ORANGE CASSIDY Added to the card Monday night, these 6 man will dance to settle an issue that, on the surface, seems to be about something as basic as a hug. But watch the segment of “Road to Memphis…” embedded above and viewers can see that it is about something deeper than that. It’s about show and prove… In the case of JurEx, it is the same thing it has been about since day one of AEW, establishing themselves in a company crowded with the best wrestling talent on the planet, and proving they deserve to be included among them. Jungle Boy did it when he hung in with AEW World Champion Chris Jericho for ten minutes, Luchasaurus is clearly one of the biggest men on the roster, and Marko has made it his mission to silence all the critics. All three men have been embraced by the AEW fans for their heart, their skill, and their will to persevere despite any odds. The Best Friends and Orange Cassidy, OC in particular, have also been embraced by AEW fans worldwide for much the same reasons as the Jurassic Express. Trent has had some of the biggest successes of the trio, claiming a pinfall victory over Rey Fenix in tag action and Pentagon Jr. one-on-one, as well as competing in bouts with Jon Moxley and PAC. And in assorted matches they’ve also beaten Private Party, as well as gone at it with PnP, TH2, The Young Bucks, and SCU. But now, in the 2nd “Dynamite” of the year, these two trios have a chance to break out and exert a dominance they did not solidify in 2019. And viewers can bet that whichever team has their hands raised in victory, well there will probably be a hug to celebrate. MOXLEY HAS HIS ANSWER FOR JERICHO… For several weeks the question has lingered: will Jon Moxley join The Inner Circle? AEW World Champion Chris Jericho extended the offer to Mox to stand with his group, and since that initial offer, has upped the ante to lure the top contender into the IC: 49% stake in the group, an EVP title, a new car, and a personalized license plate to go with it. Difficult offer to turn down for sure, and one that left Moxley with some things to ponder over his flights to/from Japan over the weekend. This writer would even speculate that Jericho may have continued to push the issue or sweeten the deal during their mutual overseas travel… Now, with both men back on American soil, Moxley has promised to make his decision public this Wednesday night face-to-face with Le Champion. Which way will Jon go? Credit the man for his poker face because he has given no tell as to which way he is leaning. One thing is certain though, should Jon Moxley choose to align himself with The Inner Circle, the balance of power within AEW will firmly rest with Chris Jericho and his unit, and it may become an impossible feat for any man, woman, or unit to stand up in opposition. MJF MADE HIS DEMANDS, CODY TO RESPOND… Last week on “Dynamite”, MJF and Wardlow strolled to the ring as confident as ever and laid out Max’s stipulations for Cody if the estranged friends were ever to have a match against one another. To get what he wants, Cody must (1) agree to keep his hands off MJF until the “Revolution” PPV on February 29th, (2) agree to receive 10 lashings from Max on live TV, and (3) agree to a CAGE MATCH WITH WARDLOW! Clearly, and as easily predicted, each of these stipulations is designed to tip the balance into MJF’s favor should Cody accept them all to get that head-to-head with his former best friend. “How badly do you want this?” is what MJF wants to know; Cody has to agree to put himself through hell and humiliation in order to get this match, and his willingness to do just that is the question Cody will answer this Wednesday night when he steps foot in the ring for the anniversary edition of “Dynamite”. TRIBUTE TO THE LEGENDS OF MEMPHIS… The Memphis area is a territory steeped in professional wrestling history, and All Elite Wrestling is a company that recognizes the rich traditions and the foundation upon which today’s in-ring offerings are built. It is with that in mind that AEW, as part of our own Anniversary Celebration, will also celebrate the legends of Memphis! Brian Christopher, Angelo Poffo, Randy Savage, Tommy Gilbert, and Dave Brown, just to name a few, will be celebrated this week at the Landers Center, but if you want to experience this tribute to its fullest, you need to grab your tickets at AEWTix.com to be in attendance Wednesday night! ***CONTAINS SPOILERS*** Tonight’s episode of AEW DYNAMITE was broadcast live from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, FL. Excalibur, Taz, and Jim Ross were the broadcast team for tonight’s event. Tony Schiavone was away on assignment. “The American Nightmare” Cody (accompanied by the head coach of “the Nightmare Family”, “the Enforcer” Arn Anderson) vs. Darby Allin began tonight’s program. Darby was fired up tonight! Both men locked up, but Cody hit Darby with consecutive shoulder tackles. It wasn’t long before both men tried for a quick victory with pinning exchanges. Darby ducked a lariat attempt, went for the Coffin Drop, which Cody countered by manhandling Darby, and tossed Darby into the corner turnbuckles. From the outside, Darby swept Cody’s legs, forcing him to land shoulder first on the ring apron. Darby connected with a tope suicida on Cody’s shoulder, and then rammed Cody’s left arm into the ring post. Cody delivered a swift kick to Darby’s head, and then put Darby into the figure four. Darby forced the break by touching the ropes. Cody was clutching his arm, and Darby kicked Cody into the corner again. Darby worked over Cody with a double arm bar. Darby was relentless in his attack. He tore off the pad from one of the turnbuckles, but Cody hit Darby with a power slam. Cody came back with a Cody-cutter on his opponent. Darby kicked out from a top rope Cross Rhodes! Darby went for a Coffin Drop, but Cody, listening to Arn Anderson, who was on the outside of the ring, lifted up his knees. Darby crashed down on Cody’s knees, and Cody was finally able to score the pin fall! Jen Decker was backstage interviewing SCU. Sammy Guevara interrupted SCU, and Christopher Daniels challenged Guevara to a match next week. Nyla Rose vs. Hikaru Shida vs. Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. vs. AEW Women’s World Champion, Riho, in a 4-way match followed this. Nyla blindsided Riho, but Shida hit Nyla with a kendo stick and then a running knee to the temple. Nyla rolled to the outside. Riho blocked an arm drag by Shida, and then countered Baker by tossing her into the turnbuckles. Nyla set up a table on the outside and attempted to put Shida through it, but Riho jumped off the top rope and stopped Nyla’s assault! Back in the ring, Nyla tried to powerbomb Shida, but Shida countered and back dropped Nyla. Then Nyla tossed Shida onto the ropes, and connected with a flying guillotine onto Shida. Nyla hit a senton onto Shida through a table on the outside of the ring. As Nyla was trying to climb back into the ring, Riho hit a diving foot stomp on Nyla. Britt Baker was there and put Nyla into an arm bar, but Nyla powered out. Riho ran into the ring and stomped onto Nyla’s abdomen, but Baker broke up the pinning attempt. Baker got caught on the top rope as Shida suplexed her. Shida then suplexed Riho onto Nyla, who was sitting in the corner. Baker hit Shida with a superkick and went for the Lockjaw submission, but Shida escaped. Riho came in and rolled up Baker for the three count! Nyla Rose, frustrated with the loss, brought a table into the ring. She placed Riho onto the table. Nyla jumped off the top, crashing right through the table on top of Riho! Alex Marvez was backstage interviewing Joey Janela. “The Bad Boy” was cut short as he was given a low blow from behind from Penelope Ford. Ford and “Super Bad” Kip Sabian put an end to Janela’s interview. Janela was curled up on the floor, writhing in pain. A video package for the Dark Order aired. www.JoinDarkOrder.com TRENT (with Chuck Taylor and Orange Cassidy) vs. Jon Moxley. Taz said of Moxley, “he’s a rage-filled brother, and I like it!” Trent tried to turn this into a traditional wrestling match, but when he slapped Moxley in the face out of frustration, Moxley unloaded with some chops. Trent didn’t step down, and connected with knees to Moxley’s sternum. The chops continued, but Mox countered with a big right hand. Jim Ross said this was a slobber knocker, just as TRENT speared Moxley on the outside! TRENT dumped Mox on the back of his head with a half-and-half suplex. TRENT hit a DDT from the top rope for a two count on Moxley. Mox hit a knee on TRENT and then planted him for a near fall. Mox gave a stiff clothesline to TRENT, but TRENT connected with a haymaker clothesline of his own for a two count on Mox! Orange Cassidy climbed into the ring and distracted Mox. TRENT used a running knee and a stuffed piledriver on Mox, but Mox kicked out at two! Mox hit TRENT with a Paradigm Shift on the outside onto the ramp. Mox then dropped TRENT on the crown of his head and captured the victory over TRENT! Sammy Guevara walked through the crowd with a microphone and called out Moxley. Sammy said the Inner Circle promised a big surprise for Mox. Le Champion, Chris Jericho appeared on the big screen in the venue, and said he wanted Moxley to lead the Inner Circle with him. Jericho also said Moxley could have a brand new Ford GT, with his very own “MOX” vanity license plate, if Moxley says “yes” to joining the Inner Circle. “Happy New Year, Mox, and we’ll be waiting for you,” said Jericho, as he drove off in the sports car. Moxley said, “The truth is I’ve always considered Chris Jericho a friend and a mentor, and out of respect, I will give you my answer in person next week, and the whole world will find out what’s in store live on DYNAMITE.” “The Natural” Dustin Rhodes vs. “the Spanish God” Sammy Guevara was up next! Rhodes came from behind and wrapped his arm around Sammy’s head with a mean lariat! Sammy didn’t even have a chance to remove his leather jacket. Rhodes clotheslined Sammy to the outside, and then smashed Sammy with a senton! “What is he? Middle-aged and crazy?” asked Jim Ross. “The Big Hurt” Jake Hager walked down the ramp and eyeballed Dustin Rhodes. As Hager distracted his opponent, Sammy landed a kick. Sammy connected with a beautiful moonsault on “the Natural.” Dustin Rhodes was reeling here. Rhodes fought back and countered Sammy G. with a powerslam and then two consecutive shots to “the Spanish God.” Rhodes used a spine buster on Sammy. Sammy countered with a running shooting star press, but Rhodes kicked out at two! Rhodes smashed Sammy with a Canadian Destroyer on the ring apron, and then hit Hager with a right hand! Rhodes tried to give the Unnatural Kick to Sammy, but the referee stopped him. As the referee turned his back to release Sammy from the corner turnbuckles. Hager interfered with a low blow. Sammy capitalized on the downed Dustin for the three count! MJF, accompanied by Wardlow, walked down to the ring to announce his stipulations in order for Cody to have his match at REVOLUTION. Stipulation #1: Cody can’t lay his hands on MJF before REVOLUTION. Stipulation #2: Cody has to go one on one with Wardlow in a solid steel cage, and he has to beat Wardlow. Stipulation #3: “Live on TNT, in front of your family and friends and God, you are going to get down on all fours like the dog that you are, and I’m going to whip you Cody…ten glorious times! And Cody, as the leather of my belt repeatedly rips off your skin, each scar will be a reminder that I’m better than you and you know it!” The main event of the night—the Elite—Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks (Nick & Matt Jackson) vs. “the Bastard” PAC and The Lucha Bros (Rey Fenix & Pentagon Jr.)! “Hangman” Adam Page, who had been drinking some cocktails, joined the commentary team for this match. Kenny and PAC were about to begin, but PAC tagged out to Pentagon. The two men exchanged chops. Kenny ran into the ropes but was kneed by PAC, who was on the ring apron. Kenny went for the one-winged angel on Fenix, but Fenix escaped. Nick Jackson was tagged in and gave a shoulder block to Fenix, and then an arm drag. Fenix dropkicked Nick. Fenix and Nick exchanged roundhouse kicks to a stalemate. The Elite dished out tremendous trios sequences to their opponents, cleaning house. PAC tripped up Kenny, and then went over the top and crashed down onto Kenny! “The aerial artistry of PAC is on full display here,” said Excalibur. Kenny tagged in to Nick Jackson, who nailed a knee and then a running bulldog to PAC. Matt Jackson was tagged in, and the Bucks gave double Canadian destroyers to the Lucha Bros. Kenny Omega and PAC slugged it out in the center of the ring. PAC hit a pump kick and then a snapdragon suplex on Kenny. Then Omega hit a snapdragon suplex of his own onto PAC, and then a Liger bomb for the two count on PAC. Pentagon hit sling blades on the Jacksons, and then a backstabber on Kenny! Fenix was tagged in, but the Bucks hit stereo superkicks. Fenix rolled through with a cutter on Kenny. PAC hit the black arrow on Omega, but the Bucks made the save! PAC applied the brutalizer on Omega, but Matt Jackson hit a blindside kick to PAC’s head. Kenny hit the one-winged angel on Fenix, and the Elite won the match! Cody came out to join his friends and celebrate in the ring. They called “Hangman” Page to join them, but Page waved them off and walked away. Be sure to join us next week on January 8th, as AEW DYNAMITE is live on TNT from Landers Center in Southhaven, MS.
(December 30, 2019) –Since AEW exploded onto the wrestling scene just one year ago, it has consistently dazzled fans with its groundbreaking shows, world-class roster, inclusive attitude and impactful announcements. To wrap AEW’s inaugural year, Cody today announced that legendary wrestler Arn Anderson will be Cody’s personal advisor and head coach for the 2020 season, starting with the New Year’s Day DYNAMITE show in Jacksonville, Fla. A member of the world-renowned Four Horsemen and Dangerous Alliance, Anderson holds multiple tag team titles and was a longtime road agent for some of wrestling’s biggest stars. This past August, Anderson made a surprise appearance at ALL OUT when he nailed Cody’s opponent, Shawn Spears, with his signature spinebuster. Cody ultimately defeated Spears, who is coached by Anderson’s Four Horsemen teammate Tully Blanchard. Anderson will be ringside with Cody as he begins the 2020 season with a rematch against Darby Allin on Wednesday, Jan. 1, at Daily’s Place in Jacksonville. Back in June, Cody and Allin fought to a time-limit draw at FYTER FEST. Cody granted Allin a rematch with the stipulation that Allin team up with him against The Butcher and The Blade. Cody and Allin emerged victorious, and are now on opposite sides of the ring in this highly anticipated match-up. “2019 was the most successful year I’ve had in pro-wrestling,” said Cody, EVP of AEW. “Beyond the superfluous financial, it’s been incredibly rewarding on a spiritual level to be able to engage so many fans with a like-minded place in their hearts for the sport. “That said, one of my greatest fears came true as I lost the opportunity to wrestle for the World Championship again. But, on the other side of that fear is freedom to chase every other accolade outside of that title. I still want to collect all the accolades I can and dominate the singles division. That’s why I’m bringing in Arn Anderson as my personal advisor and head coach. He has been in business with my family for over three decades. Having been a wrestler throughout so many different generations of talent, he understands what ingredients it takes to look beyond the horizon and produce the best content and results.” AEW’s first live event of 2020 is DYNAMITE on TNT this Wednesday, Jan. 1, in Jacksonville, Fla, at Daily’s Place.
