Unpacking Love and Loss with Ian Deitchman and Kristin Robinson in ‘It’s Not Like That’

January 26, 2026

Creators and showrunners Ian Deitchman and Kristin Robinson discuss It’s Not Like That, the new Wonder Project series exploring faith, grief, parenthood, and the quiet spaces where connection grows.

The series follows Malcolm, a recently widowed pastor raising three children, and Lori, a freshly divorced mother of two teens. Once inseparable family friends, they now find themselves navigating singledom, co-parenting, and emotional healing—while questioning assumptions about love, loss, and what people are really going through.

In this interview, Deitchman and Robinson talk about the emotional space they wanted the show to live in, drawing inspiration from series like Parenthood and Friday Night Lights. They discuss writing faith as something lived-in and human rather than defining, how the title It’s Not Like That shapes the show’s tone, and balancing humor, grief, and the possibility of romance without easy answers.

It’s Not Like That premieres with two episodes on Sunday, January 25, on Wonder Project’s subscription on Prime Video in the U.S., followed by weekly episodes. The first episode will also be available to all Prime Video subscribers on January 25, with a global release to follow.
