Scott Foley, lead actor and executive producer, discusses It’s Not Like That and his portrayal of Malcolm Jeffries, a pastor navigating grief, parenthood, and unexpected connection.
In the series, Malcolm is a recently widowed father of three who has spent his life guiding others through faith, yet now finds himself without clear answers after the loss of his wife. As he and Lori—freshly divorced and raising two teens—lean on each other through shared grief, their bond slowly evolves into something more complicated and deeply human.
In this interview, Foley reflects on playing a man of faith who doesn’t have the answers, the importance of restraint and emotional stillness in Malcolm’s journey, and how the series thoughtfully explores co-parenting, vulnerability, and the idea that it’s okay to not be okay. He also discusses allowing Malcolm and Lori’s relationship to unfold naturally, rooted in trust rather than intention.
It’s Not Like That premieres with two episodes on Sunday, January 25, on Wonder Project’s subscription on Prime Video in the U.S., followed by weekly episodes. The first episode will also be available to all Prime Video subscribers on January 25, with a global release to follow.
