Blackmagic Design is making its full-frame 6K cinema camera lineup more accessible with a new round of price cuts for the Blackmagic PYXIS 6K models and the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K.
Announced Friday, September 4, 2026, the new pricing allows customers to save more than US$1,000, depending on the model. According to Blackmagic Design, the price reduction was made possible by improved pricing on parts, allowing the company to pass those savings on to customers.
For independent filmmakers, content creators, small production teams, and anyone looking to step into large-format cinematography without jumping into a much higher price tier, this is a pretty major move.
New Blackmagic 6K Camera Pricing
The new lower prices are available immediately through Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide.
The updated pricing includes:
- Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K: reduced from US$2,715 to US$1,595
- Blackmagic PYXIS 6K L: reduced from US$3,080 to US$1,995
- Blackmagic PYXIS 6K EF: reduced from US$3,070 to US$1,995
- Blackmagic PYXIS 6K PL: reduced from US$3,265 to US$2,195
That puts the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K under the US$1,600 mark, while the PYXIS 6K L and EF models now land just under US$2,000. For a full-frame 6K cinema camera, that is the kind of pricing shift that can change buying decisions for a lot of creators.
Full-Frame 6K Becomes More Accessible
Both the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K and Blackmagic PYXIS 6K models feature a full-frame sensor with a native resolution of 6048 x 4032, giving filmmakers room to capture shallow depth of field, use anamorphic lenses uncropped, and create a more cinematic large-format look.
The cameras also feature dual native ISO up to 25,600, helping deliver lower-noise images across different lighting conditions. That matters for productions working outside controlled studio environments, especially indie crews, documentary shooters, event filmmakers, and creators who need a camera that can move between setups without falling apart visually.
The cameras can shoot up to 36 fps at full sensor resolution and up to 120 fps when windowed. Combined with Blackmagic’s color science, the company is positioning these cameras as a more affordable path into higher-end digital cinema quality.
Open Gate, Anamorphic and Flexible Framing
One of the biggest advantages of the large full-frame sensor is flexibility.
Using the full sensor area gives filmmakers an open gate 3:2 image, which can be especially useful for reframing shots in post-production. That gives editors and creators more room to adjust framing for different platforms, whether they are finishing for traditional widescreen, vertical social formats, or multiple deliverables from the same shoot.
The sensor also supports true 6:5 anamorphic without cropping, allowing for widescreen cinematic images with more detail and resolution. For creators who want the anamorphic look without sacrificing image area, that is a major creative advantage.
The cameras also allow users to shoot with a classic Super 35-sized window on the sensor, creating an instant close-up version of a shot that can still match open gate footage. For productions working quickly, that kind of built-in flexibility can save time on set.
Lens Mount Options Give Filmmakers Room to Build
Blackmagic is also keeping the lineup flexible when it comes to lenses.
Customers can choose between L-Mount, EF, or PL models, giving the cameras compatibility with a wide range of cinema and photographic lenses.
The L-Mount models work with modern full-frame lenses from Leica, Panasonic, and Sigma, while also supporting lens adapters for creators who want to use other modern or vintage glass. The EF model is aimed at users who already own Canon DSLR-style lenses and want to keep working with their existing kit. The PL model is built for productions using professional cinema lenses from brands such as Zeiss, ARRI, Cooke, and more.

The Blackmagic PYXIS 6K and Cinema Camera 6K can shoot in standard resolutions and frame rates from HD to DCI 4K and 6K. They can also shoot stills at 24.6 megapixels.
Supported recording options include:
- Up to 36 fps at 6048 x 4032 3:2 open gate
- Up to 60 fps at 6048 x 2520 2.4:1
- Up to 60 fps at 4096 x 2160 4K DCI
- Up to 100 fps at 2112 x 1184 Super 16 when windowed
- True anamorphic 4.8K 24 fps at 4832 x 4032
- Up to 120 fps in 1080 HD
That gives the cameras plenty of room for narrative, documentary, commercial, music video, social content, and event work. For creators who need one camera to cover multiple use cases, the new pricing makes the value proposition much stronger.
Blackmagic Says the Savings Come From Better Parts Pricing
Blackmagic Design CEO Grant Petty said the lower price comes from the company securing improved pricing on some parts.
“We have been working hard to secure improved pricing on some parts, so we can now pass that on to our customers through a lower price,” Petty said. “This price reduction allows even more customers to buy a professional full-frame cinema camera giving them a whole new way to tell their stories. This will be exciting!”
That quote really gets to the center of the announcement. This is not a new camera launch. It is a repositioning of existing camera models at prices that could make them more attractive to filmmakers who may have been waiting for the right entry point.
