New York already had plenty of reasons to celebrate this June.

With the city still riding the energy of the Knicks, Pride Month filling the streets with color, and Puerto Rican pride bringing its own unmistakable spirit to the season, the spotlight shifted to Brooklyn on Monday night as DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures brought the Supergirl world premiere to the borough.

Held on Monday, June 22, 2026, the premiere turned Brooklyn into a full-scale celebration of Kara Zor-El, DC fandom, and the next major chapter of the new DC Universe. The screening took place at the historic Brooklyn Academy of Music, located at 30 Lafayette Ave in Brooklyn, with the official after-party held later that night at Greenpoint Terminal Warehouse.

From the moment guests arrived at BAM to the final moments inside the cosmic-themed after-party, the night felt like more than a movie premiere. It felt like DC Studios was making a statement about the kind of universe it wants to build.

Attending the premiere also felt like a major milestone in the journey of covering entertainment, fan culture, and the stories that shape these communities. Every part of the night made it clear that Supergirl is arriving with its own identity, energy, and attitude.

Hosting the premiere at Brooklyn Academy of Music gave the night a creative and artistic edge. BAM is known for film, theater, music, dance, opera, and progressive live performance programming, making it a fitting venue for a film that brings a more emotional, cosmic, and rock-and-roll take on Kara Zor-El.

Inside the lobby, guests were welcomed by a large Supergirl display that quickly became a photo stop before the screening. The theater also allowed attendees to take photos in front of the screen, while complimentary popcorn and water added to the full premiere experience. Even the popcorn carried the Supergirl logo, a small but fun detail that helped make the event feel fully themed from the start.

Although we did not have direct access to the blue carpet, Warner Bros. made sure the audience inside still felt connected by showing portions of the live carpet feed on the theater screen. Between interviews, the livestream showed stars signing autographs, taking selfies, and interacting with fans, giving the room a chance to feel part of the larger celebration outside.

Fans, Cosplay, and Krypto’s Pack

The blue carpet brought out several major names connected to the film and DC Studios, including Milly Alcock, James Gunn, Peter Safran, Craig Gillespie, Ana Nogueira, Eve Ridley, Matthias Schoenaerts, Tom King, David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, and Jennifer Holland.

One of the sweetest moments came through the event’s connection to Krypto. Since Krypto plays a major role in Supergirl, the premiere spotlighted adoptable dogs from Best Friends Animal Society as potential members of “Krypto’s Pack.” Three dogs were introduced with their own “superpowers,” including Cleo with kisses, Sunny with snuggles, and Betsy with kisses, before the audience cheered along to help crown Cleo as the night’s winner.

The moment was fun, but it also served a real purpose by encouraging adoption and bringing attention to shelter dogs looking for homes. For a movie centered partly around the bond between Kara and Krypto, it was a smart and meaningful way to connect the film’s heart to something real.

Inside the theater, the crowd brought its own energy. Guests arrived in red and blue looks, Supergirl-inspired outfits, glamorous premiere attire, and full cosplay. There were Supergirl cosplayers, Superman-inspired looks, Clark Kent nods, and even a Sabrina Carpenter-inspired Supergirl look that brought a fun pop culture twist to the room.

Craig Gillespie and Milly Alcock Introduced the Film

Before the screening began, director Craig Gillespie took the stage to thank DC Studios, Warner Bros., James Gunn, and the many people involved in bringing the film to life. Gillespie, known for films like I, Tonya, Cruella, Fright Night, and Lars and the Real Girl, also asked several members of the film’s team to stand and be recognized by the crowd.

He then introduced Milly Alcock, who waved to the audience before the film began. It was a brief moment, but it carried the weight of the night. This was her official introduction as Supergirl on one of the biggest stages DC could give her, and the room responded with the excitement of an audience ready to see Kara take flight.

A Premiere That Reflected the Power of Fandom

What stood out most about the premiere was how much it felt like a celebration of the entire DC community. The night included studio executives, filmmakers, actors, comic creators, journalists, content creators, cosplayers, and fans all sharing the same space, which made the event feel bigger than a traditional Hollywood rollout.

Superhero culture has always belonged to more than the studios that produce the films. It lives through the fans who dress up, debate storylines, collect comics, create art, build communities, and keep these characters alive between releases. Seeing that energy reflected inside the theater and throughout the after-party gave the night a stronger cultural weight.

Supergirl as a character also carries a story that speaks to identity, grief, survival, and finding strength while still dealing with pain. Kara is not simply Superman’s cousin. She is a survivor with her own trauma, anger, humor, and sense of purpose. Celebrating that story in a room filled with passionate fans and diverse voices made the premiere feel like more than a marketing event. It felt like a reminder that these characters matter because so many different people are able to see pieces of themselves in them.

The After-Party Became an Intergalactic Disco

After the screening, guests received Supergirl-themed gift bags featuring Ulta Beauty products, OPI’s Blush of Power nail polish from the Supergirl collection, Sol de Janeiro products, travel-size body sprays, and Joico finishing spray. From there, shuttles took attendees to the after-party at Greenpoint Terminal Warehouse.

The warehouse was transformed into what felt like an underground intergalactic disco. The industrial Brooklyn space was filled with Supergirl LED signs, cosmic lighting, themed installations, and a DJ performing from the center of the room above the bar. The music leaned into the rebellious energy of the film, with female-centered tracks helping keep the party alive throughout the night.

The activations were some of the best parts of the experience. Guests could take photos in a recreation of Kara’s spaceship bedroom, complete with sunglasses and props from the film. Another photo setup featured the spaceship bus stop from the movie, while an alien character stayed fully in character for guest interactions and photos.

There was also a “What gives you your superpower?” board tied to an embroidery station, where guests could receive Krypto patches and other Supergirl-inspired designs sewn onto hats onsite. Ulta Beauty offered makeup touch-ups using products from its Supergirl collaboration, while brand activations from partners like KFC, Waymo, Cold Stone Creamery, and others filled the space with giveaways, food, drinks, and photo moments.

The official Supergirl suit was also on display, giving guests a close look at one of the film’s most important symbols. Seeing the suit in person reinforced how much costume design shapes the identity of a superhero before they ever say a word.

Brooklyn Gave Supergirl a Premiere Worthy of the Stars

By the end of the night, the Supergirl world premiere felt like more than a screening and an after-party. It was a full experience built around fandom, fashion, music, beauty, comics, cosplay, and the future of DC Studios.

Brooklyn Academy of Music gave the film a historic and artistic stage, while Greenpoint Terminal Warehouse turned the celebration into a cosmic playground that matched Kara’s messy, stylish, interstellar energy. On a personal level, the night carried real gratitude and excitement, especially as one of the biggest premiere experiences of this journey so far.

As Supergirl heads into theaters and IMAX on June 26, 2026, the premiere made one thing clear: Kara Zor-El is not entering the DC Universe quietly. She is arriving with attitude, emotion, and a whole lot of power.
