Marvel Games and NetEase Games have officially unveiled the next major update for Marvel Rivals, and Season 8.5: SINS OF ALCHEMAX is bringing one of Marvel’s most iconic heroes into the fight.
Launching June 12, Season 8.5 introduces Cyclops, leader of the X-Men, as the latest playable hero while also delivering one of the game’s biggest updates yet. Alongside a new hero, players can look forward to an all-new 18v18 game mode, a new map set in K’un-Lun, a Summer Festival event packed with rewards, and a long-requested tournament system that will allow the community to host its own competitions.
For a game that has continued to expand its roster and gameplay options at a rapid pace, Season 8.5 may be one of Marvel Rivals’ most content-heavy updates to date.
Cyclops Finally Joins the Marvel Rivals Roster
Few Marvel characters have been requested more consistently than Cyclops, and now Scott Summers is officially entering the battlefield.
Joining the roster as a Duelist, Cyclops brings his signature optic blasts and tactical combat style to Marvel Rivals. Unlike many ranged heroes, Cyclops’ kit appears designed around both precision and mobility. Players will be able to unleash devastating energy beams directly at enemies or creatively ricochet optic blasts off surfaces to hit opponents hiding behind cover.
Marvel Rivals is also leaning heavily into Cyclops’ leadership persona and battlefield intelligence. His abilities allow him to use the kinetic force generated by his optic blasts to reposition around the map, creating opportunities to pressure enemies from unexpected angles.
His Ultimate Ability removes his power inhibitors entirely, unleashing a massive optic beam capable of devastating everything caught in its path.
For longtime X-Men fans, Cyclops’ arrival represents another major milestone for the game’s expanding mutant roster.
Bounty Annihilation Brings Massive 18v18 Battles
Season 8.5 isn’t just adding a new hero. It is also introducing one of the largest game modes in Marvel Rivals’ history.
The new Bounty Annihilation mode expands matches to a massive 18-versus-18 format, creating large-scale superhero battles unlike anything currently available in the game.
To support the mode, Marvel Rivals is introducing a dedicated new battlefield: K’un-Lun: Shenloong Arena.
The legendary mystical city has long been associated with Iron Fist and Marvel’s martial arts mythology, making it a fitting location for large-scale battles featuring dozens of heroes and villains at once.
While Marvel Rivals has already embraced chaotic team-based action, Bounty Annihilation appears designed to push that concept even further by increasing the number of players, abilities, and interactions happening simultaneously across the battlefield.
Summer Festival Brings New Rewards and Swimsuit Costumes
Following the June 18 update, Marvel Rivals will kick off its Summer Festival event.
Players can participate in daily logins and limited-time activities to earn up to 2,500 Units while exploring new seasonal content. One of the event’s biggest additions is the arrival of a fresh lineup of highly requested Swimsuit Special costumes, expanding on one of the game’s most popular cosmetic themes.
The Summer Festival also introduces Hellfire Bay Beach, a new social hub where players can gather outside of combat. Fans will be able to control their favorite heroes, socialize with other players, take screenshots, relax on the beach, and explore the environment.
The update continues Marvel Rivals’ efforts to create more social experiences beyond traditional PvP gameplay.
The Return of the 616 Day Vault
Marvel Rivals is also bringing back one of its most popular limited-time offerings.
From June 12 through June 26, players will once again gain access to the 616 Day Vault, allowing them to unlock previously released content from July through September 2025.
The vault includes returning costumes, event items, Summer Special collections, and other fan-favorite cosmetics that newer players may have missed during their original release windows.
For collectors, this may be one of the best opportunities of the year to fill gaps in their cosmetic collections.
Community Tournaments Are Finally Here
Perhaps the most significant long-term addition arriving in Season 8.5 is the introduction of Marvel Rivals’ official third-party tournament program.
The new initiative allows content creators, esports organizations, and community leaders to organize their own Marvel Rivals competitions.
Whether it’s a local community bracket or a larger online tournament, organizers will have access to a structured framework designed to support competitive play. The move represents a major step forward for Marvel Rivals’ growing esports ambitions and provides fans with more opportunities to engage with the game beyond standard matchmaking.
For a community that has been actively organizing grassroots events since launch, official tournament support has been one of the most requested features.

Another Major Step Forward for Marvel Rivals
Marvel Rivals has continued to build momentum by regularly expanding both its roster and gameplay offerings, and Season 8.5 appears to continue that trend in a big way.
Cyclops finally gives X-Men fans another iconic mutant hero to master. Bounty Annihilation introduces the largest-scale battles the game has seen so far. The Summer Festival brings fresh rewards and cosmetics, while the new tournament program opens the door for a stronger competitive future.
With Season 8.5: SINS OF ALCHEMAX launching on June 12, Marvel Rivals continues to position itself as one of the most active and ambitious live-service superhero games on the market.
