Marvel Rivals is getting darker, sharper, and a little more dangerous with its next major update.

Marvel Games and NetEase Games have revealed full details for Marvel Rivals Season 9.5: The Mystery of Thebes, launching August 7. The update brings Parker Robbins, The Hood, into the game as a new Vanguard, along with new cosmetics, swimsuit special costumes, customizable Lady Loki animations, the return of the Krakoan Reels event, and major storage optimizations across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox.

The Hood’s arrival gives the award-winning Super Hero Team-Based PVP Shooter another villain with a distinct combat identity, blending gunplay, dark magic, protective utility, and demonic transformation into one flexible frontline role.

The Hood Enters the Roster as a Vanguard

The biggest addition in Season 9.5 is The Hood, voiced by Damian Priest, also known as Luis Berrios from WWE SmackDown.

In Marvel Rivals, The Hood is described as a dynamic gunner who walks the line between mortal mobster and demonic powerhouse. His kit allows him to shift between human and demon forms, giving players a mix of ranged pressure, defensive support, and dark magic abilities.

As Parker Robbins, he uses twin pistols to provide relentless frontal cover fire. His mystical cloak allows him to channel the chaotic energy of Oblivion, creating protective shields for allies while throwing dark magic orbs that can warp into barriers and weaken incoming enemy fire.

His Ultimate Ability pushes the character fully into horror-fantasy territory. The Hood enters Full Demon State, transforming into a fully realized Gun Demon. In this form, he fires high-impact piercing rounds that can punch through shields and enemies while radiating dark energy that grants bonus health to nearby teammates.

That makes The Hood an interesting Vanguard addition because he does not sound like a simple tank. His kit appears built around aggression, pressure, survivability, and team protection, which could make him a strong choice for players who want a frontline hero with more offensive personality.

Damian Priest Brings The Hood to Life

The casting of Damian Priest adds another layer of crossover appeal to Season 9.5.

Best known to wrestling fans from WWE SmackDown, Priest brings a recognizable voice and presence to a character who already carries a mix of swagger, danger, and supernatural edge. It is a smart match for The Hood, whose Marvel identity has always balanced street-level crime with demonic power.

For players who follow both Marvel and WWE, this is the kind of casting that makes the new roster addition even more interesting.

Summer Festival Vol. 2 Brings New Swimsuit Costumes

Following the main update, Marvel Rivals Summer Festival Vol. 2 begins after the August 13 update.

The event will introduce a new wave of swimsuit special costumes and cosmetics, continuing the game’s summer-themed rollout. These kinds of seasonal cosmetics have become a major part of live-service games, and Marvel Rivals is clearly leaning into that energy with character-driven looks designed to keep the roster feeling fresh between larger gameplay updates.

Lady Loki Gets Customizable Animations

The Goddess of Mischief is also getting a flair upgrade.

Season 9.5 will introduce exclusive, toggleable movement and ability animations for Lady Loki. Players will be able to customize these animations directly from the costume menu, giving them more control over how the character moves and performs in battle.

That is a smart quality-of-life and personalization feature because it lets cosmetics go beyond visual skins. For players who main Lady Loki, customizable animations add another layer of identity and expression.

Krakoan Reels Returns for Volume 2

The fan-favorite Krakoan Reels event is also returning for Volume 2.

While Marvel Rivals continues expanding its character roster and cosmetics, returning events like Krakoan Reels help keep the game’s live-service rhythm active. It gives players another reason to log in, engage with the season, and stay connected to the larger Marvel universe inside the game.

Major Storage Optimizations Are Coming

One of the most practical improvements in Season 9.5 is a major texture compression overhaul.

Marvel Games and NetEase say the update will reduce the game’s footprint without losing visual quality. PC players can expect the game size to shrink by roughly 40GB, while PlayStation 5 and Xbox versions are expected to decrease by about 15GB.

That is a huge win for players managing storage space, especially with modern live-service games often taking up a large portion of console and PC hard drives. A performance and storage update like this may not be as flashy as a new hero, but it is one of the most player-friendly changes in the update.
