Nintendo delivered one of its biggest Nintendo Direct presentations to date, offering an expansive look at the future of both Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch. Packed with major first-party reveals, surprise third-party announcements, franchise revivals, and long-awaited sequels, the showcase highlighted Nintendo’s plans well into 2027.
From the return of one of gaming’s most beloved adventures in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time to the long-awaited arrival of KINGDOM HEARTS IV on Nintendo Switch 2, the presentation delivered something for nearly every type of player.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Returns for a New Generation
The biggest announcement of the presentation was undoubtedly the return of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest video games ever created, the Nintendo 64 classic is being completely reborn for Nintendo Switch 2. While Nintendo stopped short of revealing extensive gameplay details, the announcement confirmed that Link’s legendary journey through Hyrule will return in 2026 exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2.
For longtime Nintendo fans, this remake represents the return of a defining title that helped shape modern action-adventure gaming.
KINGDOM HEARTS IV Finally Lands on Nintendo Hardware
Another major surprise came with the confirmation that KINGDOM HEARTS IV will launch on Nintendo Switch 2.
The newest chapter in Square Enix’s beloved crossover franchise continues Sora’s journey through the mysterious city of Quadratum while introducing new allies, new powers, and new worlds inspired by Disney and beyond. Nintendo also confirmed that the complete KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III] will arrive on October 8, giving players the opportunity to experience the entire saga leading into the next chapter.
The announcement marks a significant moment for Nintendo players who have long wanted a native, comprehensive Kingdom Hearts experience.
Xenoblade Gets a New Beginning
Monolith Soft’s acclaimed RPG franchise is also preparing for its next evolution.
Nintendo Direct revealed Xenoblade Genesis, a completely new entry in the franchise set to launch in 2027. While details remain scarce, Nintendo described the project as a “new beginning” for the series.
In addition, Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition launched immediately following the presentation, featuring enhanced visuals, performance upgrades, and new gameplay additions. Updated Nintendo Switch 2 editions of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 are also scheduled for later this year.
Nintendo Switch Sports Heads Back to Wuhu Island
One of the most nostalgic reveals came with Nintendo Switch Sports Resort.
The new entry takes players back to the iconic Wuhu Island, introducing 12 sports activities that blend returning favorites with brand-new experiences. Tennis, Bowling, Golf, Basketball, Volleyball, Boxing, and Archery return alongside fresh additions like Skateboarding, Power Cruising, Prop Plane, and Thumb Wrestling.
Launching October 22 exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2, the game appears designed to recapture the social magic that made Wii Sports Resort a phenomenon.
Pokémon Pokopia Expands This Summer
Pokémon fans received news that Pokémon Pokopia will continue growing through both free and paid content.
A free update arriving this August introduces underwater exploration through the new Dive mechanic, allowing players to build communities beneath the ocean surface. Nintendo also announced the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass, beginning with the “Bubbly Basin” content update.
The expansion introduces new Pokémon, customization options, furniture sets, and an entirely new underwater region to explore.
Fire Emblem Returns with Fortune’s Weave
The Fire Emblem franchise also made its return with Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave.
The tactical RPG introduces four new protagonists whose stories intersect through the Heroic Games tournament. Players will battle across strategic maps while exploring the city of Dagsion, building relationships, recruiting allies, and uncovering a larger conflict unfolding behind the competition.
The game launches September 17 for Nintendo Switch 2 and includes a premium collector’s edition featuring exclusive physical bonuses.
Splatoon Raiders Leads Nintendo’s Summer Lineup
Nintendo provided its most extensive update yet on Splatoon Raiders.
Unlike previous entries focused heavily on multiplayer, Splatoon Raiders places a stronger emphasis on single-player adventure gameplay. Players will explore the mysterious Spirhalite Islands alongside Deep Cut while hunting treasure, upgrading equipment, and battling Salmonid enemies.
The game launches July 23 for Nintendo Switch 2 and will receive its own dedicated Direct presentation on June 30.
Star Fox Makes a Triumphant Return
After years of fan requests, Fox McCloud is officially back.
Nintendo unveiled a cinematic reimagining of Star Fox 64 featuring fully voiced dialogue, overhauled visuals, an orchestral soundtrack, online multiplayer, and new GameChat functionality designed specifically for Nintendo Switch 2.
The game launches June 25 and immediately became one of the most talked-about announcements of the presentation.
Third-Party Support Continues to Impress
Beyond Nintendo’s own franchises, the Direct demonstrated the growing support Nintendo Switch 2 is receiving from major publishers.
Notable announcements included:
- Stellar Blade arriving in 2026.
- Metaphor: ReFantazio launching November 12.
- Devil May Cry 5 Devil Hunter Edition arriving June 23.
- Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen launching October 9.

The breadth of third-party support continues to reinforce Nintendo Switch 2’s growing position as a destination for both Nintendo exclusives and major multiplatform releases.
Nintendo’s Future Looks Bigger Than Ever
If there was one takeaway from this Nintendo Direct, it is that Nintendo is fully committed to making Switch 2 its next major platform while continuing to support the original Switch ecosystem.
The return of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time alone would have made headlines, but adding KINGDOM HEARTS IV, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, Xenoblade Genesis, Star Fox, Splatoon Raiders, and a deep lineup of third-party titles transformed this showcase into one of Nintendo’s most significant presentations in recent memory.
With major releases stretching through 2027, Nintendo has made it clear that the future of Switch 2 is only just beginning.
