Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment is bringing one of cinema’s most iconic films to 4K Ultra HD for the first time.
Gone with the Wind will be available to purchase Digitally in 4K Ultra HD and on 4K UHD Blu-ray Disc on November 3, 2026, newly remastered with High Dynamic Range and restored picture and sound. The release will also include new bonus content exploring the film’s cinematic influence, restoration process, and Vivien Leigh’s unforgettable performance as Scarlett O’Hara.
The film will be available on Digital through major retailers including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Google TV, Fandango, and more. On physical media, three 4K UHD editions will be available: a standard 4K UHD release, a 4K UHD SteelBook, and a special collector’s edition available exclusively at Walmart.com.
A Hollywood Epic Returns in 4K
Originally released more than 85 years ago, Gone with the Wind remains one of the most famous and widely discussed films in American cinema. The epic drama stars Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh, Olivia de Havilland, Leslie Howard, and Hattie McDaniel in a sweeping story set against the backdrop of the Civil War and Reconstruction era.
The film follows Scarlett O’Hara, a wealthy and self-centered Southern belle whose world is shattered by war. As the South is devastated, Scarlett discovers her own will to survive, protect her family, and rebuild her life, while remaining emotionally tied to Ashley Wilkes and unaware of the love and loss surrounding her relationship with Rhett Butler.
The film went on to receive 10 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actress, and Best Supporting Actress. Hattie McDaniel’s win for Best Supporting Actress remains one of the most historically significant moments in Oscar history, as she became the first Black performer to win an Academy Award.
New Bonus Features Explore the Film’s Legacy
The new 4K release includes three new special features created for this edition.
Gone with the Wind: The Influence that Endures features film critics and scholars discussing the film’s continued cinematic influence and its place within popular culture.
Gone with the Wind: Restoring and Preserving an Epic takes viewers inside the restoration process, showing how artists worked to restore the film’s vibrant colors, image quality, and audio fidelity for a modern 4K presentation.
Scarlett O’Hara: A Woman Ahead of Her Time explores Vivien Leigh’s portrayal of Scarlett O’Hara and the character’s complicated place as one of classic Hollywood’s most memorable figures.
A Release Built for Film Collectors
For physical media collectors, this release is a major one. Gone with the Wind has been part of home entertainment history for decades, but this marks the first time the film will be available on 4K UHD Blu-ray.
The film will be presented with English, French, and Spanish language options, along with English SDH, French, and Spanish subtitles. The runtime is 233 minutes, and the film is rated G.
Adding to the celebration, WaterTower Music will also release the film’s score on vinyl this fall, marking the first time the score has been released on vinyl in more than 40 years.
A Classic That Still Sparks Conversation
Part of the lasting legacy of Gone with the Wind is that it remains both a landmark of classic Hollywood filmmaking and a film that continues to invite discussion. Its scale, craft, performances, and place in cinematic history are undeniable, but so is the need to view it with a clear understanding of the era it depicts, the era in which it was made, and the cultural conversations that continue around its portrayal of the American South.
That makes this 4K release more than a simple restoration. It is an opportunity for film lovers, collectors, critics, and new audiences to revisit a major Hollywood work with fresh context, improved presentation, and new supplemental material that examines its influence and preservation.
