One of the biggest films of 2026 is heading home. Lionsgate has announced that Michael, the blockbuster biographical drama chronicling the life and legacy of Michael Jackson, will arrive on Premium Digital and Premium Video on Demand beginning June 9, followed by a wide range of physical media releases on July 14.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Jaafar Jackson in his feature film debut as the King of Pop, Michael has become a global phenomenon since its theatrical release, earning more than $852.4 million worldwide and capturing a remarkable 97% Popcornmeter score from audiences.
The film offers a cinematic look at Michael Jackson’s rise from child prodigy and lead singer of The Jackson 5 to one of the most influential entertainers in music history. Rather than focusing solely on the music, the film explores the personal journey, ambition, and creative drive that transformed Jackson into a worldwide cultural icon.
Jaafar Jackson Leads an All-Star Cast
Making his acting debut, Jaafar Jackson steps into the role of his legendary uncle, delivering a performance that has generated significant attention from audiences and critics alike. The cast also includes Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Juliano Valdi, KeiLyn Durrel Jones, Miles Teller, and Academy Award-nominated actor Colman Domingo.
Behind the camera, the project reunites an accomplished creative team led by director Antoine Fuqua, screenwriter John Logan, and producer Graham King, whose previous music biopic Bohemian Rhapsody became a global box office sensation.
Premium Digital Release Begins June 9
Beginning June 9, audiences will be able to purchase or rent Michael through participating digital retailers, including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Google TV, YouTube, and other major platforms. Rentals will be available through Premium Video on Demand with a 48-hour viewing window, while Premium Electronic Sell-Through will allow fans to permanently add the film to their digital collections.
The release also marks one of Lionsgate’s early additions to the Movies Anywhere platform following the studio’s recent partnership with the service, allowing digital collectors additional flexibility in managing their libraries.
Physical Media Arrives July 14
Collectors will have several options when Michael arrives on physical media July 14. The film will be available on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K UHD, alongside multiple premium collector-focused editions.
Among the standout releases is a 4K UHD Collector’s Edition featuring a 50-page photo booklet from Lionsgate Limited. Fans will also be able to choose from Amazon and Walmart-exclusive SteelBook editions, each offering unique collectible packaging.
